[This is a review of the DVD version] If you appreciate old-fashioned abominable SF movies but haven’t ever seen them given the Mystery Science Theater treatment, you owe it to yourself to win up this DVD! Mike Nelson and his robot pals Crow and Tom Servo perceive this relentlessly funny turkey of a movie (a scientist saves the severed head of his girlfriend and puts her in a pan, where she pleads with him to let her die. How sloppily-put-together is this film? The filmmakers apparently forgot their hold title and call it “The Head That Wouldn’t Die” in the ruin credits.) –and throughout the entire film, Tom and the `bots mercilessly riff on the film with laughable comments and jokes that’ll have you rolling in your seats. Long a staple of Comedy Central and the Sci-Fi Channel, this is one of the first DVDs of this classic comedy series (many others are available on VHS) . In addition to the pristine and definite record you regain with DVD, Rhino has also included the corpulent *original* version of “The Brain That Wouldn’t Die” on the flip-side of the disc so you can perceive it without Mike and the `bots (to riff on your contain, perhaps? ) . The DVD menus are innovative and worth checking out unprejudiced for the clever swish-pan of the bridge of the Satellite of Fancy (Crow, Servo, and Gypsy flash past us) . If I had any quibble at all it’s a minor one… why is the DVD chapter that begins the film entitled “It’s Movie Time!” when every MSTie knows it should be “We’ve got Movie Heed!”? But I’ll save up with minor problems like that as long as Rhino continues to give us these expansive reissues of classic MST3K episodes. Now if they’d only release “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians” and “Outlaw”… (Also recommended in this series: the DVD version of “Mystery Science Theater 3000: Eegah.”)

I first saw this movie when I was in the 4th grade or thereabouts, and it disturbed the living bejesus out of me.

But what do you know when you’re in the 4th grade?

Now that MST3K has reissued this movie and I’ve watched it perhaps 10 times, I laugh all the procedure through it. The dialogue is bad. The basic dwelling recalls countless puns about folks who lose their heads and flash-in-the-pan actresses. Indignant Scientist Bill Courtner’s girlfriend has lost hers in a fiery car shatter (”Honey roasted,” comments one of Mike’s companions) . Obsessed scientist that he is, he keeps her head alive in a lasagna pan burly of “adreno-serum” in the basement laboratory of his country dwelling. She says, “Let me die!” enough times that you’re ready to oblige her, then strikes up a liaison, sort of, with the thing that lives in Bill’s closet–the product of an earlier experiment that went awry. (When Bill looks in the closet, you’re dying to hear, “Omygawd, it’s Rosanne!” but Mike’s pals missed that one.) The scene in the seedy strip club sends me into hysterics. Best line here, robot Crow observing one of the girls: “I must have blood before the night is done!”

Buy,Download, Or Stream Mystery Science Theater 3000 - The Brain That Wouldn’t Die! Click Here

There are some godawful blunders. For example, the scene in which Bill enters the country location with a recent girlfriend follows very closely after his assistant Curt’s having stumbled around the same room bleeding profusedly from … shall we say, a farewell-to-arms type encounter with the thing in the closet. So where’s all the blood?

The ending is a bit gory (though tame by today’s standards) . The thing in the closet certainly wins the evil award for that year. But when he/it turns away toward the stairwell after making mayhem starting a fire in the lab and taking a bite out of dreadful Bill’s throat, we glimpse another disagreeable flaw: you can actually observe where the camouflage is tied on at the help of the actor’s head! Now THAT’s comic!

Not to mention how Bill’s mature girlfriend, serene in her pan at the demolish, manages to laugh without the succor of chest, diaphragm or lungs. (I forgot, she has neck juice.)

Incidentally, in my version the slay credits also screw up the title, calling it The HEAD That Wouldn’t Die.

Mike and his robots’ running commentary, though, offers nonstop comedy you can bask in over and over again. I haven’t been panning this movie. (Sorry!) Four stars for amusement value.

Smartly paced direction and glowing performances highlight this extremely humorous and ultimately touching epic of two prankster teenage girls who bustle riot through a Catholic boarding school–and who, almost in spite of themselves, design in maturity and spirituality in sometimes unexpected ways.

Ida Lupino is generally best remembered as a noir-ish actress of the 1940s and 1950s–but she was an accomplished director as well, and THE Misfortune WITH ANGELS possesses a remarkably stable feel that bespeaks Lupino’s talents. The script is comical without being frantic and spiritual without being sentimental and the cinematography is simple yet often resplendent. But the trusty sparkle of the film comes from the extremely delectable performances offered by an ensemble cast led by Rosalind Russell as the formidable Reverend Mother and Haley Mills and June Harding as her spot students. Russell gives one her best performances here, Haley Mills is her equal every step of the method, and June Harding is equally enjoyable; the truly memorable supporting cast includes the likes of Binnie Barnes and Gypsy Rose Lee. A truly fun and sometimes touching film to which you will likely return again and again, well worth the investment. Recommended.

“The Difficulty with Angels” is one of those films where the whole is greater than the sums of the fragment. Worldly Mary Clancy (Haley Mills) constantly has “scathingly smart” ideas and drags her innocent best friend Rachel Devery (June Harding) into all sorts of hi-jinks at the St. Francis Academy for Girls, a Catholic School lorded over by one of the more formidable Mother Superiors in movie history, played by Rosalind Russell. Mary has unique views and has never seen a rule she was not enthusiastic in breaking, while Rachel wishes with all of her heart to be more like her friend. Based on the modern by Jane Trahey, the screenplay by Blanche Hanalis offers by a very episodic record as Mary and Rachel bag in and out of peril over and over again. Yet every time Mary and Mother Helpful butt heads each earns a bit more respect from the others. More importantly, they advance to understand each other.

The recent tagline for this film was that it was “a habit forming comedy,” which is a rather ironic description given the film’s rather surprise ending. Like Rachel, at first gape what happens at this raze of this film is a complete shock. But upon reflecting-or watching the film a second time-it becomes determined that this is a film about finding something better. It is not surprising that Rosalind Russell captures the comedy of the Reverend Mother, but what might surprise you is how she provides the heart and soul of the film as well. I also want to observe Jerry Goldsmith’s come by for this film and the procedure he takes the title theme and turns it into both the St. Francis marching band’s song and appropriately religious sounding music for a key moment in the film. An valid spend of a basic theme in myriad ways. The title sequence was created by Fritz Freleng and David H. DePatie.

“The Concern with Angles” is a not a spacious film, but it is a solid, inviting narrative that sneaks up with its message through the laughter and tears. I obtain myself watching this film every time I near across it on television, which probably speaks more to its strengths than anything, because I have never been a vast Haley Mills fan. You should gaze Mary Wickes as Sister Clarissa, seeing as how she played another albeit more memorable nun in the “Sister Act” movies. Of course the movies are quite similar in terms of having a expansive cast of nuns who as definite and fascinating characters (who can ever forget Marge Redmond as Sister Liguori? ) . Finally, withhold an seek out for Gypsy Rose Lee as Mrs. Mabel Dowling Phipps, who teaches interpretive movement…

History Channel’s “The Manhattan Project” offers a concise, nicely balanced history of the making of the atomic bomb in fair under 50 minutes. This 2004 episode of Unique Marvels manages to clarify the physics and the technology leisurely the bomb in layman’s terms, while crafting a suspenseful chronicle around the costly ($30 billion in recent dollars) military-civilian collaboration.

“Manhattan Project” begins with the space of atomic science as the Second World War got underway in 1939, and why the United States decided it should accomplish a bomb before Nazi Germany could. At the center of the tale are Army General Leslie Groves and scientist Robert Oppenheimer, a yin and yang combination who together solved the technical problems of building a bomb, then in portray time place together the industrial resources to provide the famous uranium and plutonium. “The Manhattan Project” concludes with the Trinity Test of July 1945 and the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945.

The myth benefits from interviews with some of the surviving personnel who worked on the project. These interviews set a human face on a massive industrial distress. Some prominent historians offer a larger perspective on the project. The legend does not paralyzed away from the just implications of spend. Some of the concluding comments suggest that warfare has been changed forever by the invention of a weapon that could annihilate millions in a major exchange.

This short feature on the Manhattan Project is highly recommended as a concise but reasonably comprehensive peruse at the common history level of the making of the first atomic bomb.

In what is described in the early stages of the documentary as the straggle of death - because human kind would be inventing the means to its hold destruction - The Manhattan Project accurately and compellingly chronicles the scientific, honest, political, and logistical aspects of the rise of the atomic age.

With improbable usage of authentic footage, unique interviews with informed and interested personnel, as well as the usage of intricate animations explaining and displaying how the science slack the bomb works, and how the immense power of fission was harnessed to provide fuel for a bomb, there are lustrous details about every aspect of the bombs’ timeline. From uranium to plutonium, from “The Gadget” to Slight Boy to Full Man, the scientific data and supporting information is amplified by peaceful narration, profound historical and contemporary minds providing first-hand insight, and a succint wrapup of all other pertinent and/or keen details. There are even capable interviews with Paul Tibbets - the man who piloted the Enola Glad, the plane responsible for dropping Dinky Boy on Hiroshima.

Particularly impressing were the details about two of the sites involved: Los Alamos, NM and Oak Ridge, TN. The sheer numbers enthusiastic to pull of the creation and successful usage of the bombs are truly staggering. To deem that Oak Ridge became the fifth largest city in Tennessee as a result of bomb production is incredible, and a testament to the amount of clout this project was given.

The documentary is a pretty and moral portrayal of all parties keen. Roosevelt, Truman, Oppenheimer, Groves, and the numerous scientists given credit for the improbable accomplishments, and consequent world-altering impact, are all given worthy weight and historical perspective.

I highly recommend The Manhattan Project for those keen in either the science of the bomb, or the related military history.

Season five was a season of comings and goings in the used Thursday night NBC drama. Despite the second major cast member checking out in two years, the present continued to be strong and the foundations of one relationship that would continue on for a number of years was residence in set at the slay of season five.

Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards) and Doug Ross (George Clooney) haven’t always agreed on the diagram they practice medicine or how to deal with authorities, but they are both astronomical doctors and despite their differences, are also aesthetic splendid friends. Season five sees Greene trying to tear the fair line of friend and manager as he copes to deal with Ross’ basic disregard for authority. The pediatrician finally goes over the line with one terminally sick boy, breaking every protocal, which eventually leads to his departure from the Cook County General emergency department.

Clooney was like a flash becoming a grand star on the ample camouflage and a burgeoning movie career was pulling him away from his weekly television series, so when the time came to go, he left. This was a radiant sizable blow to the cast, the second fresh member to leave in two years (Sherry Stringfield’s Dr. Susan Lewis left in season three), but as has been the case, the present continued on with enormous additions to the cast to buy the position of Clooney.

Before he left though, Clooney fought for and got a pediatric ER common, with himself as the attending. His relationship with nurse Carol Hathaway (Julianna Margulies) continued to grow stronger, as the two planned their future together. As the season drew to a terminate, Hathaway discovered she was pregnant with his twins, but when she told him the news, he couldn’t return, leaving her to face the pregnancy alone.

Greene got a fine dose of being a manager, as he and Kerry Weaver (Laura Innes) managed to work the ER through a number of problems. Greene also dealt with his wife being remarried and his daughter having to live far away. He does salvage to expend some time with her early in the season. He also treats a hospital janitor (guest star Djimon Hounsou) with a gross history of abuse and helps him to overcome his fears and confront everything going on in his life. Greene also strikes up a friendship with British surgeon Elizabeth Corday (Alex Kingston) and as the season ends they initiate a relationship that would eventually lead to their marriage.

Corday begins her second year in Chicago starting over as an intern. When she turns down Dr. Romano’s (guest star and future regular Paul McCrane) advances, he cancels her fellowship and she is forced to launch over again. Her relationship with Dr. Peter Benton (Eriq LaSalle) eventually ends and as the year comes to a cessation, in addition to her relationship with Greene, she is going benefit to Romano looking for another fellowship to extend her quit in Chicago.

Dr. Weaver begins a search for her birth mother, a search that leads her to someone who isn’t her mother thanks to a private investigator. She applies for the job as head of the ER, but is passed over in favor of Dr. Amanda Lee (guest star Mare Winningham), who turns out to actually not be a doctor at all. After the Dr. Lee fiasco, Weaver doesn’t attach her name abet in an the temporary reins are turned over to Dr. Romano, great to the disdain of the entire ER staff.

PA Jeannie Boulet, already certain for HIV, comes down with Hepatitis C and is also fervent in a car accident with Ross, which puts her in the hospital for a while. She also is a key portion of the pediatric ER with Ross.

Hathaway, as mentioned, continues to grow in her relationship with Ross. She also opens a clinic in the ER, catering to the bad of the plot. Her clinic is a big success until she is forced to step down after Ross uses her and the clinic to gather the machine that ultimately kills his final patient. The season ends as she begins what will be one of her finest arcs on the note, her pregnancy with twins. The storyline is also one that will eventually introduce viewers to Abby Lockhart (Maura Tierney) who is now a regular on the expose.

Benton continues to deal with his son’s deafness, going to substantial lengths to learn all he can. He is harm when he learns that his son’s mother is lively to Germany with her original husband and basically kidnaps his son in the season’s final episode. Benton also had a “highlight” episode in the season, as he journeyed to Mississippi to possess in at a doctor’s office there and had to deal with the racial tensions and also had to fetch his bedside manner, as he stepped away from being a surgeon for two weeks.

Dr. John Carter (Noah Wyle) had an sharp year. He began the year as an RA in the medical students’ dorm, but lost his job when the students threw a party that resulted in an overdose. He eventually moved into Weaver’s basement. He also has a relationship with insurance saleswoman Roxanne (guest star Julie Bowen), but breaks that off in the final few episodes of the season. His tryst with his medical student Lucy Knight (the oh-so-adorable Kellie Martin) is a highlight of the season, although it only happened in one episode.

Knight is the novel kid on the block in this season, the enthusiastic medical student with a apt brain, but a lack of proper skills. She and Carter seem to have a love-hate relationship that comes to fleshy tilt when she accidently kicks him in the chest and helps nurse him encourage to health.

The highlight of this season was the two-part episode “The Storm,” possibly the best two-part episode the explain has ever done. In the episode, Jeannie and Doug regain in a car accident on the procedure to support at a horrific accident though-provoking a school bus, where Dr. Greene is a hero for saving the kids. Additionally, Carter and Knight have their tryst in one of the hospital’s rooms and eventually Ross calls it quits. The two hours were filled with mountainous drama and it is truly a highlight in ER’s urge.

The only thing lacking on this location is extras. There are a lot of deleted scenes and a immense gag reel, but no commentaries or other extras. That is a tiny disappointing. I like getting whatever access I can to my absolute common television explain and this station doesn’t provide anything huge to that regard.

Despite that, this was a mammoth season, truly one of the best they did. The cast was able to travel past Clooney’s departure and pull together in the final few episodes. All in all, a attractive danger for one of television’s best dramas.

It’s finally here! The complete fifth season of ER is coming to dvd! Season five is one of the most intense seasons of ER period! Kellie Martin joins the cast as Carter’s med student, Lucy Knight. Also, Doug Ross (Georege Clooney) leaves the point to in a riveting two parter. Jeanie’s condition worsens, Benton realizes his son is deaf, and at the kill of the season, Hathaway finds out she is carrying twins. That is fair the tip of the iceberg of what happens in ER: SEASON 5

This is a must for any fan. Also, I would like to right a careless mistake made by amazon.com

The cast members they have listed at the top of the page are not in this season, most of them didn’t even advance in until the ninth or tenth season. The entire fifth season cast is:

Anthony Edwards

George Clooney

Noah Wyle

Julianna Margulies

Gloria Rueben

Laura Innes

Alex Kingston

Kellie Martin

and

Eriq La Salle

As for the cast members listed at the top of the page, here are the seasons they came in:

Goran Visnjic: season 6

Maura Tierney: season 6

Mekhi Phifer: season 9, recurring previously in season 8

Parminder Nagra: season 10

Linda Cardellini: season 10

There have been many other cast members on the expose since season five, but these are the ones mistakenly listed by amazon as being on the fifth season. This season won at least one emmy, if not more, and earned even more nominations including one for Noah Wyle. Patient tale lines include an a man who has strapped a bomb to himself, a girl who needs a transfusion of a rare blood type, a man dressed as an elf who has a heart arrythmia, a school bus accident, a shot stripper and a DUI victim. This status also includes the emmy winning two parter The Storm, which is the departure of George Clooney’s charachter.

It was watched by over 40 million people when it first aired.

This is one of ER’s best seasons, although I have to say they are all vast, except for the eleventh season. Oh well, at least it got help to being safe again for the twelth season.

Keep em coming Warner Brothers!

I’m a fifteen-year-old Troma fan, and Lloyd Kaufman is a hero of mine. He was coming to Cleveland to note Panic Firmer at the Cinematheque and have a short discussion beforehand. I was extremely disappointed that the theatre said that under absolutely no circumstances will anyone under 18 will anyone be admitted into this movie. Disappointed, I wrote a letter to Lloyd and attatched a copy of an essay I wrote about how he was my hero. To my surprise, someone from Troma’s offices called and arranged for me to meet Lloyd one-on-one at the Rock’N'Roll Hall of Fame. To perform a long narrative short, Lloyd spent the afternoon with me, and he was by far THE nicest, kindest person I’ve ever met, and he encouraged me to persue my passion for film. He gave me one strong word of advice: Don’t search for Awe Firmer. Now that I absorb it on dvd (*hah*) I know exactally what me meant. I cannot hold that the same gentelman made this movie, and was the one cursing througout the documentary. The whole point of this chronicle is: This movie has no stops. It’s even sicker than the conversations that highschoolers have at lunch. I like it. And if you’re alive to in filmmaking, the commentary tracks and documentary are an absolute must, as they’ve given me more insight to the filmmaking process than any other dvd or book. It’s a must-have.

Terror Firma is an independant film made by Troma, one of the last (if not THE last) miniature time movie companies left in the United States. You should acquire this movie if for no other reason than to relieve independant film. But once you do rob it, what will you acquire? An incredibaly comical, very violent, and fairly titilating movie.

I was talked into watching this movie by an aquantance. Never having seen a Troma film, I wasn’t determined what to request. I belief it would be a coarse budget slasher flick with lots of groundless blood. I was mostly despicable. It turned out to be a very laughable and intelligent satire on the movie industry, movie making, and society in general. (While also being a slasher flick with lots of unfounded blood.) I haven’t laughed as great at a movie in years.

As for the acting, while most of the actors will never whine the words “I’d like to thank the Academy,” the female lead, Alyce LaTourelle, was simply ample. I was surprised to behold someone with as considerable talent in a uncouth budget portray like this one. She is destined for bigger pictures, but not nessisarily better ones.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Terror Firmer! Click Here

The Extras: The DVD is a two disc status that as some of the best extras of ANY DVD I’ve seen (an I have hundreds.) Most “making of featurettes” are nothing but the actors talking on the site about how enraged they are to be making the movie, with clips from the movie thrown in. This DVD has a 90+ diminutive movie showing the whole process from the first day of shooting to the premier. I would have paid … for this alone. They also have many deleted scenes, alternative scenes, and bloopers. There’s footage of the actors auditioning for the movie (when’s the last time you saw that on a DVD? ) But wait, there’s more! Three music videos (that are quite honorable,) interviews with two of the actors, and theatrical trailers. Not to mention three, count `em, three audio comentaries. Oh yea, and plenty of easter eggs! All together, one of the most feature packed discs out there.

One word about the conceal format. This movie, as with most, if not all of Tromas movies, was filmed in 4:3, so this IS in it’s novel format. This disc is NOT pan and scan.

If you’ve read this far, you are probably considering purchasing this movie. Go for it, I’m overjoyed I did.

Vandread isn’t really all that novel, in fact, having made its Japanese broadcast debut method help in 2000, one might go as far as to say it’s splendid darn mature. Funimation’s fresh box location release of the property represents the third time the DVDs have been released to the North American market; first through Pioneer, then repackaged and re-released from Geneon. Classifying the expose isn’t come as easy as typing out its hard stats however, as I’m speedily discovering. Technically it’s a mecha entry on yarn of its utilize of robotics throughout. In fact the very term Vandread is derived from the notion of the physically conjoining of a fighter robot called a Van-Type and a space-fighter craft known as a Anxiety. When combined, the two craft become a distinguished giant robot that can range in appearance from a hulking, oversize-gun carrying humanoid to a metallic crab surrounded by orbiting weapon-spheres depending upon the combination of the ships keen.

However, and unlike most robot shows, Vandread is as powerful a space-opera as it is a science fiction/ action part. It’s situation in the distant future in a Universe where mankind has expanded his advance of population to include multiple planets and set stations. However, and what makes Vandread unusual, the present literally opens with a propaganda film designed to frighten an all-male populous with the fact that all women are, in fact, monsters.

See it turns out that in the future, thanks to cloning techniques, male and female copulation (or even cohabitation for that matter) is no longer critical to continue the speed. As such both sexes are only vaguely aware of the other’s existence. Yes it’s a unusual idea and positive it lends to Vandread’s individuality as a whole, but the same-sex reproduction ideals are a bit sketchy (if not homosexual promoting) .

The vast gag, at least early on anyway, works off the notion of three males becoming entangled with an all-female pirate ship before being transported, via a space-warp, to a distant galaxy to avoid annihilation. The core of the chronicle follows this ship’s (the Nirvana) voyage wait on home while paying special attention to the daily drama stirred up thanks to the differences between the sexes. No, not those differences, but rather the awkwardness and feelings of passion that only be achieved through the ragged “opposites attract” plan. It’s immature, it’s laughable, it’s sometimes annoying but Vandread makes distinct to counteract the goofiness with a steady-dose of CG rendered action sequences that aloof acquire up even after all these years.

The visuals are far more solid then they have any moral to be considering the show’s vintage. What’s that, you say there are shows far older (Gundam Sail or Macross for example) that aloof study nice so what’s the tall deal? Well hold in mind that proper around the time that Vandread was created, the world was making a collective fade away from standard hand-drawn cells and painted backgrounds to an all out computer generated imaging overload. That’s resplendent and genuine, but many early efforts of the practice suffered from little hardware capabilities, stiff animation and abominable texturing. Somehow Vandread ducks and weaves through this minefield of pitfalls by combining a beautifully vibrant color pallet in the standard animation with CG inspired exterior backgrounds and robot models. Obvious, the process has been refined in the nine years since but that isn’t to say Vandread suffers any as a result.

Pacing can best be described as all over the station as the early episodes were brutally formulaic and relied far too heavily upon the whole “men and women meeting for the first time will be droll” gimmick. Additionally most of the first season is structured more as a succession of stand-alone episodes than a single ongoing anecdote. This trend degenerates to grander narrative arcs as the prove progresses and by the middle of the Second Stage; Vandread feels more like a aged mecha anime entry.

In my view the recede away from the cuteness and attempts at slapstick to the slightly more psychologically though-provoking plots of the Second Stage was a step in the accurate direction. So considerable so in fact that I almost feel like the series probably would have hit its lumber in the third or fourth season had it lasted that long.

As a whole the reveal suffers a bit in terms of confliction scope, as the enemies our cast frequently engages throughout the entire series are never really known as anything other than “the enemy”. Worse detached, they appear out of nowhere, acquire whipped, then live to attack another day. Their motives are never sure, nor is their presence ever fully justified. Other detractors along the intention include an over-the-top (and quite rotten) lead male character, and overly naive lead female character, and what can only be described as a robotic version of He-Man’s annoying court jester, Orko.

The soundtrack is especially well done with a reoccurring techno number that’s simply infectious. I had the pleasure of enjoying the plot though a 5.1 surround sound speaker location and found that the rolling bass riff coupled with a high waste of synthesized horns flawlessly.

In conclusion Vandread is certainly not for everyone but manages to survive the test of time thanks to its unwavering (if at times, forceful) charm. While it rarely gets the credit it deserves, the present certainly paved the plan for many robot-based series that would follow (titles like Gravion and Godannar) . This latest DVD release from the masters of quality at Funimation assures that Vandread will continue to spread its charm with the presentation values it deserves.

This series was very reminiscent of series like Trigun, Corpulent Metal Apprehension, and Outlaw Star nothing to serious but inviting, dramatic, and comic enough to be very addictive. The first thing you have to realize is not to buy most of this series seriously though if you’re looking for a hardcore dramatic series like Ghost In The Shell, Akira, or the like than this series won’t be for you, while it has status mechas battles and some drama for most of the series it’s mostly light-hearted for the first season. The originate of Vandread Second Stage does become a cramped more dramatic and serious though especially with the story-arc of what the people of Earth have done to the human colonies in position for their occupy agenda. The main station of the series is that after a century or so of the male/female genders being separate and living on different worlds they for whatever reason have started fighting one another for resources and personal agendas. The stories on both sides on what the other genders are like also earn the series very comic, as when you hear the memoir on the male home-world at how demonic the females are and how they will eat your organs and are fair horrific. Thus begins the awkward plug of three males trapped on a ship of a multitude of fair females after a battle between the genders goes chaotic and causes a fusion of the male and female situation ships. The cast have a spacious array of comical situations that form for a safe laugh throughout the note and the characters are hilarious as you sight as they try to interact between the genders bumbling along sometimes. The upright cute couple of the series for me were Hibiki Tokai a third grade citizen on his world who basically was fair a lowly factory worker when he got trapped aboard the ship because he boasted he could bring aid a vanguard, and Dita Liebely a bubbly female pilot of the ship who wants to contact her first alien and since she’s never seen a male before she sees Hibiki as the first alien she’s contacted. The video is positive and gripping so no complaints and the audio was also genuine the cast for both the Japanese/English were helpful as well. Again though like the fresh releases from Funimation the area is four dvds effect into two thinpack dvd cases and than into a paper sleeve, the extras aren’t distinguished objective the standard textless intro/ending songs and some trailers but for the mark collected not terrible. So if you like comical action drama sci-fi animes here’s a pleasant one to ogle at for you anime collection…

I whole-heartedly enjoyed “In The Land of Women” when I first saw it befriend in April during its brief accelerate in cinemas. Needless to say, I have been so looking forward to the DVD release since then.

I objective got my DVD today, and it is completely a bare bones disc, unless you count the trailers at the beginning of the disc. A fine movie, but a terrible DVD release.

The Kasdan Family has made a primary impress on the better films of Hollywood and Jon Kasdan (writer/director of IN THE LAND OF WOMEN) holds those values of radiant cinema intact. Having appeared as an actor in some films of his father Lawrence Kasdan (Spacious Canyon, The Tall Chill, Body Heat, Mumford, Dreamcatcher, The Bodyguard, etc), he has not only inherited his father’s credo of making meaningful statements about life as we are currently living it, he has absorbed the fluid character development of those films and added his gain sensitive touch with blooming dialog. He is a talent to contemplate.

Soft porn writer Carter Webb (Adam Brody in a very dazzling performance) lives in Los Angeles come his unfortunate mother (JoBeth Williams) and has honest been dumped by his actress girlfriend Sofia Buñuel (Elena Anaya) . When his mother learns of her mother’s failing site, the distraught Carter offers to disappear to suburban Michigan to pause with his grandma Phyllis (Olympia Dukakis) . Once in picturesque Michigan Carter deals with his lovable but eccentric grandma and meets the across the street neighbors - mother Sarah (Meg Ryan in fair compose), daughters Lucy (Kristin Stewart) and the younger Paige (Makenzie Vega), and errant husband Nelson (Clark Gregg) . In this setting of a ‘woman world’ Carter is key to aiding the various maladies of each of the women while addressing his maintain disappointing failed relationship. The manner in which he intervenes by simply being reveal and tender and caring makes a clear impact on not only those around him but also on his absorb life and talent as a meaningful writer.

In what could have been a soupy chick flick Jon Kasdan has instead provided a script that has a healthy dose of homespun philosophy and has guided his multi-talented cast to offer some of their finest moments on film. This is an enchanting movie, but it is also a balm for viewers who have experienced life-threatening illness, broken homes, coping with the elderly, and ultimately coping with death. It simply works. Though this film deserves a full-blown special edition designed with adults in mind–or at the very least a book detailing its afraid production history–the best treatment it’s had to date was the 2004 TMS/Funimation/Our Time Family Entertainment DVD from 2004. That disc has long been out of print and fetching inflated prices via eBay and various Amazon Marketplace sellers.

But now it’s relieve. And despite Amazon incorrectly listing the aspect ratio as 1.33:1 and the distributor as Platinum Disc, rest assured that this is EXACTLY the same disc notify as the 2004 edition: the film is presented in ANAMORPHIC WIDESCREEN, with 5.1 Surround Sound (plus a basic Stereo option) plus all the extras from the new release, which are decidedly aimed at children unfortunately. You get: static-screen character profiles; a Slumberland Singalong featuring three songs from the film; a “Perform Your Maintain Royal Scepter” craft project (text frames) and four trailers, one of which is for a computer-animated children’s feature called A WOBOTS CHRISTMAS that looked so horrendously out-of-date even in 2004 that it could only be a Christian film, plus three other trailers for powerful better productions: the likewise computer-generated Canadian feature SANTA CLAUS BROTHERS (2001), the flat-animated short NOEL NOEL (also from Canada), and a lengthy space for one of the early ARTHUR DVDs.

As with the Funimation edition, the packaging states the film runs 100 minutes, while the film itself actually runs 95 minutes. No sizable deal, and at least it’s not the heavily sever version that appeared in the days of VHS.

But the loyal gem here is, as mentioned, the WIDESCREEN presentation of the vastly underrated Puny NEMO. If you’re a fan of either American, Disney-style animation, or Japanese, Miyazaki-style anime, you OWE it to yourself to assume up this budget-priced release to seek what you missed.

If you’re looking for well-behaved extras, your best bet these days is YouTube, where you can pick up several “Making of” features from around the time of the film’s release (seek for these ones: =mhS6jPZvURI , =IJ6f81ZYIfI) as well as Osamu Dezaki’s 1987 pilot anime film (=fCLXfJFOlUY&NR=1) and the rare and involving Miyazaki test footage (=fnL-6yLzgWA) that never made it to the final production once he left the project.

Fantastic to finally have this film succor on DVD, and at a decent sign to boot!

Bradbury and Giraud’s influences are determined. The yarn is filled with goodwill and heart without being sentimental or maudlin. Limited Nemo breaks a promise and unleashes the Nightmare King’s powers against his friends in Dreamland, and must face his horror to rescue them. The images of Dreamland are breathtaking. The jester-goblins are endearing. Flip’s character is a mischief and has many faults, but not of cynicism. There is no adult subtext, no disparagement or side cracks, no misplaced self-consciousness anywhere in this movie. It would appeal to arresting, shiny, creative children, and it would seize their parents’ interest and love too. I hope it is re-released soon.
