This is such a substantial movie! Okay, now, I guess I am a limited partial because I do esteem romantic comedies. Runaway Bride has the most romantic ending I’ve ever seen in a movie (with the exception of An Affair to Remember, nobody can beat that) . I absolutely loved it! I was even amazed at how well-organized the movie was compared to other Hollywood romantic trash. I watched this movie for two reasons: I like Andie MacDowell and my last name is Harrison.

I liked this movie because I am a Viet nam vet that fought in Tet and therefore I have some worthy experience with war in a city, or as the Army outmoded to call it War in a Built Up Place. If you have actually seen this kind of war, the movie is frighteningly factual and like war, necessisarily fragmentary and incomplete.

For example, in one perfect and horrific, scene Andie MacDowell and her two journalist companions are keen through a city to rep a hospital where her husband may be. They approach upon a situation: a young child, probably a girl runs out of a building in front of them. A soldier follows her out of the building, and kills her. War’s brutality? Certainly. A killing enraged soldier, killing an innocent child. Possibly. But, even more likely, the scene represents wars brutality on multiple levels. If you knew that the child had objective thrown a hand grenade and the soldier escaped it but his buddy, or even more likely in this kind of war, his sincere brother did not would that change the nature of the scene for you? Or, if that was factual and you knew that the child had another hand grenade, or a pistol, would that change your impression of the meaning of the scene? And how about that soldier many years later as he looks down at his acquire child, assuming he survives the war, will he be able to forget the view on that other chid’s face as he shot her? However satisfactory his reason and in trusty war there are many reasons that can construct such an act distinguished, will he be able to forget, or will it haunt him. As our soldiers fight a shadow war in Iraq and in Afghanistan it would be capable to remember that war is hell. If you have forgotten, this is a very true record of it.

The whole greenhouse and flower connection is corny, but without it, there would be no basis for the movie’s equally corny title. A beginning scene at the Pulitzer awards introduces Adrian Brody as a photo journalist who lashes out at Harrison in angst over his less-accomplished friend’s death; later, out of guilt, he helps Sarah develop it safely through enemy territory.

The second half of the movie places us in the rugged terrain of Yugoslavia, where members of the press and television camera crews perform their draw through battle by driving in cars marked with the letters “TV.” Your acceptance of these scenes depends on how noteworthy of your disbelief you are willing to suspend, from scenes like a near-rape fascinating Sarah and several enemy soldiers (but from which side of the fighting? ), to their many near-misses and stop calls with dropping bombs and sniper bullets.

The film gets the gawk of war accurate, with settings and ramshackle towns ravished by the effects of continuous firepower that recognize authentic and realistically haunting. Yet, however sincere they may glance, the war scenes lack the effectiveness of such films as “We Were Soldiers” or “Gloomy Hawk Down,” mainly because we know that our limited group of reporters is going to survive no matter what stands in their arrangement.

In a solid performance, MacDowell makes a first-rate, but not entirely lasting impression as a wife and mother torn between disbelief and reality. Her character’s interactions with those touched by war is not as prevalent as is needed to obtain a feel for the emotional taxation of such traumatic events, but she does try. The overall movie feels a bit distanced from any sort of emotional connectivity, but it does have redeeming qualities as a time-waster without mighty afterthought to it.

Not exactly designed to be reassuring about computers and technology, the film’s premise is that a hacker group has infiltrated the nation’s computer systems and is late major terrorist attacks. Sandra Bullock is great as a computer expert who is unwittingly helping the abominable guys until she finds out what is going on….and then she’s on the rush for her life as the terrorists try to derive to her before she exposes them. While I deem Sandra Bullock is at the top of her obtain in this one, I reflect Jeremy Northam hasn’t gotten nearly enough credit for his role as Devlin, the romantic stranger/hacker/bad guy. You’ll rep a kick out of Dennis Miller, too, as Bullock’s ex-boyfriend who nearly comes to her rescue. I have only one quibble about this film. If you pay attention to Bullock’s mannerisms, you’ll glimpse that there’s rarely a scene where she isn’t fiddling with or playing with her hair- tucking it tedious her ears, pulling it encourage in a pretend ponytail, brushing a strand off her forehead. Although her character falls deeper and deeper into insanity. Dennis Miller was the funny relief, and did well at that. The epic itself is something that could happen in valid life, and that made the premise plain in a procedure. To have your whole life stripped away from you in one second is absolutely frightening. The directing in The Fetch wasn’t topnotch, but does hold you on the edge of your seat. I wish the DVD would’ve had at least a featurette or something. It doesn’t even arrive with a theatrical trailer. But the characterize and sound quality are kindly, and there are scene selections. The menus recognize like they’re true from a computer program. The Get isn’t one of Sandra’s best movies (Leave that to Miss Congeniality), but it certainly is one of the attractive ones.

This is one of the better Anime’s to near out in the states and gain air time on TV. The explain appears on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim due to it’s graphic violence. This is a unbelievable and fantastic anime. Lots of excitement and drama and characters that live in all kinds of shades of grey. I truly bask in this anime. The box site is excellently done with a very elegant box and loads of extraordinary extras. I especially appreciated the manga.

So why the 3 star review? well this first pressing of discs appears to be foul. Bandai is experimenting with original copy protection and it causes serious problems for many DVD players. In particular seizures at episode 3 in disc 1 and episode 9 in disc2. That is provided that it works at all. People using blu-ray and in particular PS3 players appear to have worthy better success rates though.

Unfortunately Universal has decided to release the paunchy series without any extras. There was a review that mentioned that Campbell was against the release of this prove and Brisco on DVD–nothing could be further from the truth. He was probably referring to a money deny (or being sarcastic) and the haggling with Universal. Also, the display had such a puny cult following I’m positive that impacted the release as well. Campbell was executive producer of this reveal with Robert Tapert and Sam Raimi.

Delightfully humorous “Jack” makes a perfect compliment to “The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.” (through no accident its being released the same day at a distinguished lower price–because there are no extras–Universal is hoping that Campbell/Brisco fans will scrutinize this, scrutinize the trace and say, “hey this looks shapely superior, too”. Bruce Campbell is one of the most underrated actors alive and does the role of Jack/Daring Dragoon justice. Joss Whedon was so upset with the plan things were going on the station of the movie, for which he wrote the screenplay but over which he exercised no artistic control, that he walked off the position. Indeed, this is a very hard movie to glance today after the TV series. I did, in fact, moderately luxuriate in the movie when it first came out. I actually appreciated and enjoyed the absurd tension contained in the title, an airhead bimbo cheerleader called upon to be her generation’s vampire slayer. But viewed today, the movie isn’t terribly successful, and is in fact made remarkable worse by the genius of the television series. It isn’t fair a demand of Sarah Michelle Gellar being more consuming in the title role than Kristy Swanson (though SMG’s mighty smaller stature increases the paradox of a petite girl beating up expansive, supernaturally strong vampires) or the movie missing all the familiar characters of the show; the movie is almost completely devoid of its occupy style, view, and feel. Although the TV series started off on a limited budget, it instantly had a compelling explore and visual style that the movie completely lacks. Furthermore, on TV they managed a coolness and hipness that the movie never comes conclude to. Unfortunately, the series has aesthetic distinguished reduced the movie to a curio.

Many have distinguished the number of performers in supporting roles who later became well known, such as Ben Affleck, Natasha Gregson Wagner, and Hillary Swank (not to mention Stephen Root, who memorably played Milton the stapler guy in OFFICE Dwelling)

She unprejudiced wants to delight in her life as a cheerleader/Valley girl when some scruffy veteran guy (Donald Sutherland) shows up and tells her she is “the Chosen One.” You cannot fill how being a Vampire Slayer puts a crimp in a young girl’s lifestyle. But when vampires (Rutger Hauer & Paul Reubens) are snacking on your classmates, what’s a girl to do but grab some stakes and secure down to some serious slaying. Fortunately, there is a cute guy (Luke Perry) as a bonus.

For fans of the hit television series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” the novel movie is certainly a mixed bag. The strengths of the film approach from Joss Whedon’s script, which takes the …conception of the blonde bimbo being chased by the monster and reverses it so that she end’s up kicking the monster’s butt. The weaknesses of the film arrive from director Fran Rubel Kuzui, who plays the whole thing for camp, personified by Paul Reubens over the top turn as “Lefty” and his agonizingly long death scene. But if you listen past the remark to the real lines, you can clearly fetch the foundation for the Buffy character on television.

Donald Sutherland lends a obvious amount of weight to the proceedings as Buffy’s Watcher, but Rutger Hauer’s distinguished presence is lost in his campy Vampire King. What looks the most out of space is the fighting style of Kristy Swanson as Buffy, which combines martial arts with gymnastics and cheerleading, which, again, fits more into the camp style of the film. What to write about THIS one? I have to be unbiased, this is a tough call to gain, because I objective haven’t seen anything quite like this before, and maybe that’s enough of a recommendation in itself. Some reviewers have likened it to “The Addams Family”, but I’d say “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” is another candidate for comparison. The Merrye family suffers from a degenerative disease (”rots the brain” - that’s what my dad former to say about silly books!) which causes them to regress to, eventually, homicidal, psychopathic cannibals. There’s no denying that Lon Chaney does a friendly job as the family chauffeur and as the sole issue of reason in the madhouse. Carol Ohmart, as a relative visiting to reclaim the estate, reprises her sexy ice-queen role from “House on Stunned Hill”, this time stripping down to the unlit lace (in one of the more gratuitous moments in a gratuitous movie!)

There’s no gore, at least nothing like what you commonly look in today’s abominable excuses for “dismay movies”. In fact, the “rat scene” from “Repulsive Sun Demon” is probably more of a pure gross-out than anything on camera in this movie. But the *implied* violence is there, in spades. And folks, it’s uncommon. Do NOT inquire of to sit there and yawn. It may have been done on a coarse budget, but all that means is that today’s directors are wasting money. “Spider Baby”’s director, Jack Hill, did some work with Roger Corman before knocking this one off in a mere 12 days of shooting. The movie was lost in proper limbo for years, and that lack of exposure at a time when it could never have made it to television probably ensured it’s future as a lawful “cult” film.

The print is pleasant - no complaints at all. The missing 8 minutes isn’t the usual well-deserved crop, either: in this case, they lopped off famous background information. (I wish that they had restored it into the film instead of having it as an “extra”, but hey! We’re lucky to score ANYthing here!)

Bottom line: you can’t call yourself a “cult movie fan” if you haven’t seen this one. It is in no procedure similar in spot to “Carnival of Souls”, but I’d have to say that it ranks fair up there with that classic for pure strangeness.

I discovered this DVD a few weeks ago whilst browsing Amazon. I had’nt seen or heard of it before and simply bought it on a whim. It now ranks as one of the most palatable movies in my collection. ‘Spider Baby’ is in a different league to most other B-movies. The production is lifted by honorable direction from Jack Hill and by a very pleasant and likable cast. The steady surprise for me was Lon Chaney’s performance as the family chauffeur. I’d half expected to witness a washed up broken-down awe star sadly trying to emulate his past glories (a la Bela Lugosi in ‘Plan 9 From Outer Space’) . Instead, Lon Chaney treats us to one of the best performances of his career (honestly!) and shows what a titanic professional he was. The movie benefits from a marvellous musical come by, including the opening theme which is sung by Mr Chaney himself. It really does have to be heard to be believed. The storyline is surprisingly lifeless paced and there is tiny on-screen gore or violence. Most of the scare occurs off camera and the film relies on the uncommon characters and exclusive goings on to withhold viewers capitivated…and it succeeds brilliantly!

On the technical side, characterize quality is unbelievable - exceptionally smart and titillating with very slight impress of wear and jog. The sound is single channel mono and is also very qualified. The film is presented in its novel widescreen 1.66:1 ratio. This is a capable size even if you don’t possess a widescreen dwelling - the movie looked substantial on my standard size 1.33:1 TV. The DVD also features an intriguing commentary by the film’s writer and director Jack Hill. Jack has a very easy going style and gives lots of leisurely the scenes info on the movie, cast and crew. Spider verdict : a thoroughly luscious tongue-in-cheek apprehension that comes highly recommended.

I can’t add anything to the praise for this film. If you fancy Disney films, this is considered one of the classics. I unbiased wish to briefly comment on the criticism of the lack of a widescreen version. The first widescreen film, The King and I, was released in 1956. Previous to this all films were tubby conceal. Peter Pan, released in 1953, and a advantageous many of the Disney classics are only available in bulky camouflage aspect. I have always had a fascination with this tale. As a kid I remember checking the Disney relate book version out of the library week after week. When I finally got to peer it, I was enthralled. There is honest something magical about the fable. It’s partially the coming together of all the boyhood adventures in one residence. Mermaids, Indians, and Pirates? What more could any boy want? And, of course, the ability to skim. The “You can waft” sequence over London is one of my all time favorites. The whole movie really is gripping very well with a sage that movies rapid from situation to site with lots of humor to support everyone entertained and lovely animation of the fanciful Never Land.

This special edition is worth tracking down. The recount (modern stout frame) is consuming and the surround sound is very nice. Extras include a documentary on the making of the movie and a promotional theatrical featurette from the recent release. The “audio commentary” is recent. Hosted by Roy Disney, it consists of selections from interviews of the affirm talent, live action models, animators, and animation historians. While not your usual commentary, it’s involving stuff and well worth a listen. Finally, there’s a like hunt game and DVD storybook for kids.

This movie mild brings a smile to my face and probably always will. Maybe my friends are correct when they say I worship this movie so noteworthy because I always wanted to be Peter Pan.
