I managed to earn this a few days before its official release date and am cheerful to represent that it finally gives this classic film the treatment it deserves. The video and audio have been restored from orignal source material with noticeable improvements over the previous DVD transfer. The narrate has none of the scratches and dust that were point to on the earlier version, and there is a Dolby stereo option as well as the recent mono. The stereo soundtrack offers greater clarity and depth and there’s no low-level hum or snarl.

Besides offering a major improvement in the quality of the image and sound, the fresh DVD also includes a suited selection of extras. There’s a 25 limited “Backstory” from AMC that is very informative and arresting. There are two separate commentary tracks, one with Celeste Holm, Christopher Mankiewicz (Joseph’s son), and Kenneth Geist, the other with Sam Staggs, author of “All About ‘All About Eve’”. There are

promotional interviews with Davis and Baxter, four newsreels, a trailer, and a restoration comparison.

The restoration comparison is one of the strangest that I’ve seen. Instead of an audio track explaining the problems and processes enthusiastic in the transfer, there’s a series of screens with text printed on them. There then follows a series of comparisons from various versions of the film. There’s nothing really inferior with any of this, but considering the tall amount of time and concern that goes into a restoration of this magnitude, I expected something a bit more dynamic.

For any “All About Eve” fan, venerable or fresh, this is the DVD we have been waiting for, and at five dollars less than the unusual DVD, a valid bargain.

Highly recommended!

Bette Davis made this movie in 1950 when her career was faltering;her last film was the insipid “Beyond the Forest” (now considered a minor camp classic by some.) “All About Eve” is relished by many who hail it as Davis’s all-time greatest performance(which is,in all fairness, arguable) as the forty year customary magnetic actress Margo Channing. Many also feel Davis never looked better than she does here (her costume designer for this was the legendary Edith Head) .The acting is genuinely pleasant and the screenplay is music to the ears;as a consolation for not winning the AA,(it went to Judy Holliday) Davis received the coveted Current York Film Critics Award for Best Actress.George Sanders is peerless as the poison pen critic Addison De Witt;( he won the academy award for best supporting actor.) Thelma Ritter is hilarious as the wise traditional companion of Margo’s who’s seen it all happen before. Celeste Holm gives an absolutely comely performance as Karen Richards(she tells Eve “I’m the lowest fabricate of celebrity” she being the wife of playwright Lloyd Richards(Hugh Marlowe, whose wooden personality suits the role he plays.) Gregory Ratoff’s timing in the “bicarbonate of soda” scene is improbable and Gary Merrill is moral on as the cynical Bill whose age (32) creates insecurity for Margo; she fears she’ll lose him to some young “babe”.The film holds up extremely well, considering it will be 50 years obsolete next year.Marilyn Monroe has an laughable bit as a “Graduate of the Copacabana School of Dramatic Arts” Finally we approach to the gal who played the “exiguous worm” of the title: Anne Baxter. She is astonishingly straightforward and realistic in her interpretation of the louse;if she seems to be a bit on the drab side, it’s only because she’s underplaying to the “Queen Mother”, studying and using her idol as a stepping stone in order to collect her name in electric lights and reign supreme as a Lady of the Theatre; in other words, she’s diabolical as HELL! If you’ve never seen this movie, you’re in for a treat. If you have’nt seen the DVD version do so;the print is crystal certain and adds immensely to the film’s viewing pleasure. This is Mankiewicz’s masterpiece and it won the Oscar for the Best Record of 1950.

I agree with the first 2 reviews on this DVD so I won’t bother repeating what has already been written.

I’ve practiced yoga at home for about 10 years without aid of personal instruction. I believe over 20 DVD’s on yoga and at least a dozen books on the subject because although my life does not allow me to derive out and go to classes, I am a very serious student. I’m 50 years used and I need to stop fit and balanced to select care of my aging body as well as a severely disabled loved one. That said, I count on instructors who can arrive out to people they’ve never met and try to anticipate all the questions and various levels of ability of these many students.

I first encountered Sadie Nardini through her fantastic YouTube videos. If you are sitting on the fence and want to inspect for yourself how this woman instructs I suggest you go to her YouTube channel […] and examine some of her many offerings. After watching her videos I longed for a DVD with Sadie talking me through a profitable routine. Sadie really delivers with this DVD. You bag the aid of her explanations and modern reach to yoga with a routine that is beautifully designed. Sadie also has a preview of this DVD on her website:[…] She needs to link it here as well, hopefully she’ll do that.

Sadie moves through everything slowly and carefully. If you are a beginner or restarting after taking too distinguished time off (raising my hand) this gives you plenty of time to adjust to getting into the various poses. If you’ve built up some stamina and you know the routine well, this slowness really forces you to produce grace, strength and really challenges your stamina.

The routines she has outlined is quite a bit like buying several DVDs in a status. Sadie could easily have made about 4-6 separate DVD’s with the material she offers but she found a method to give it to you all in one DVD. Sadie doesn’t cheat you anywhere during the workout. If you can’t last through the whole thing - I was struggling toward the kill. I unbiased backed off and trusted that with time I would rebuild my endurance. The restorative phase is often rushed through in some DVD’s in order to squeeze in a lot of poses but Sadie is very conscientious in this station as well. I care for the arrangement she takes you through the restorative phase and oh dear, it was really principal by the time she got done with me.

If you don’t have time to do any of her plump length workouts you can engage cramped sections to work on. This is useful also if there is something that really challenges you and you wish to notice and practice it more. As one reviewer already stated, a matrix option would have been nice here but it really isn’t that mighty of an trouble to lift a share, then capture another and sometimes those matrix menus can be a wound in the rear to navigate anyway. So I can’t really complain about this slight thing when everything else is so outstanding.

Although I order a lot of material from Amazon I don’t bother to write reviews very often so this lets you know how strongly I feel about this particular DVD. If you like Shiva Rhea but catch her a bit hard to hold up with, try out Sadie. You won’t accept her easy but what you will accumulate is some really fine explanations and ways to produce into some of the more difficult things you might net in other DVD’s. This one DVD by itself has all you need to utilize yoga to invent a fierce body but if you like to switch to other instructors and workouts to hold from being bored, then Sadie will serve you to be better at all those other workouts as well. It’s one of the best resource materials I now bear on yoga. Thank-you Ms. Nardini for making this DVD.

I discovered Sadie through her YouTube videos, which are noble, and a spacious preview for this DVD practice. Her sequences are so distinguished fun–they always believe an unexpected element, and you’ll earn a sweaty and invigorating workout. The toddle is brisk but not frantic. I was able to extend fully into poses before she moved on. The core focus is worked in smoothly and consistently. This is NOT Pilates with a few yoga poses in between.

The DVD is broken into mini flows, including her recent Sun Salutations, a twisting waddle, a balance shuffle, inversions, hip openers, arm balances, an ab glide, and a few others. Some of the sections are relatively brief (7-9 minutes-ish), while others are over 15 minutes. She also includes several preset sequences, which, as the previous reviewer mentioned, are lengthy but so very worth it.

Lastly, Sadie has a titanic narration declare, and bless her, she avoids the goofy yoga metaphors and descriptors when she’s detailing the poses. Awesome!!

These are movies to eye if you honest want to have an scrumptious evening. Angelina Jolie was born to play Lara Croft. Watching her gawk all these radiant locations and kick butt at the same time is always a lot of fun to perceive. I contain both movies and they’re probably the most played DVDs I have.

I really enjoyed both movies. Angelina is sizable and daniel craig and gerard butler is honest too georgous.

This film by Tony Palmer was originally made thirty years ago but I had never seen it before. I have never been a spacious fan of Callas (although I do deem her recorded Tosca is the dramatically finest I know), and I came away from it jumpy at the tragedy of her life and with mammoth respect for how she handled her admittedly somewhat compromised gifts. This DVD consists of a chronological retelling of her life myth — one that surely has all the makings itself of an opera; why hasn’t anyone written one yet? — and includes amazing (mostly) black-and-white video clips of excerpts from performances by and interviews (as well as newsreel items) with Callas. The musical clips includes such things as ‘Un voce poco far’ (Barber of Seville), ‘Oh, s’io potessi’ (Pirata), ‘Nacqui all’affanno’ (Cenerentola), ‘Tacea la notte placida’ (Trovatore), ‘Tu che la vanità’ (Don Carlos), ‘Ah, non credea mirarti’ (Sonnambula), ‘O mio babbino caro’ (Gianni Schicchi), and a sparkling ‘Vissi d’arte’ (Tosca) . There are numerous interviews with such operatic luminaries who knew and worked with her — Giuseppe di Stefano, Franco Zeffirelli, Graziella Sciutti, Luchino Visconti, John Ardoin, Lord Harewood, John Copley, Elvira de Hidalgo (her teacher), Tito Gobbi, Carlo Maria Giulini as well as Arianna Stassinopoulos (her biographer) . Distinguished attention is paid to her marriage to Giovanni Battista Meneghini, and her long and heartbreaking affair with and abandonment by Aristotle Onassis.

Tony Palmer constructs a biography with an operatic anecdote arch, beginning with her birth in Manhattan and culminating in her death at age 53 in Paris, alone and nearly penniless. This is a splendid example of video biography and I came away with unusual respect for this tough but fragile artist who sacrificed all for her art. I recommend it strongly not only for fans of Callas but for opera lovers in general.

Sound: Stereo; Format 16:9; Subtitles in French, Italian, Spanish, German; Total running time: 92 minutes

Scott Morrison

I am very gratified to have found this film, which provides the kind of definitive documentary of Maria Callas I had been hoping to obtain. Because it was filmed 30 years ago, it contains plenty of first-hand accounts of Callas and her life by people who knew her, worked with her, or were her friends.

The director repeatedly depicts her life as a struggle between “Maria, the woman” and “Callas, the artist”. I was tempted to dismiss this as a rather facile storytelling plot until behind in the film, when her secretary says that Callas herself passe this dissimilarity all the time. She would talk about her stage persona as “La Callas”, as if it were another person.

This “Maria vs. Callas” interpretation goes a long draw toward explaining the tragedy of her life — starting as a talented singer with an new yelp, but a very overweight woman who never experienced fair appreciate or passion. Her most successful period as an artist was before she left her husband, Giovanni Battista Meneghini, in 1959 after starting her affair with Aristotle Onassis. With Onassis, the woman blossomed but the artist suffered. Then after Onassis abandoned her suddenly in favor of Jacqueline Kennedy, the woman was devastated and the artist never performed again at her earlier peak levels.

The film is filled with insightful interview footage. I particularly appreciated the comments by her secretary and by Franco Zeffirelli. The film contains quite a bit of footage of Callas, but in general it is from later in her career and from concerts rather than operas.

The one exception is dinky footage from “Tosca” in 1964, which was filmed for the BBC. That is a shame, because what dwelling Callas apart was not her whine, but her acting and dramatic presence. Callas herself acknowledged that she sometimes wished to have the squawk of Renata Tebaldi instead. Unfortunately, there is not noteworthy film out there of Callas in performance.

But in the slay, this isn’t a performance compilation, but a documentary. All in all, it’s a huge one. Highly recommended!
