The year 1955 proved a memorable one for Grace Kelly in a number of respects, two of which alive to winning an Oscar and meeting a prince who would ask her to marry him and part a kingdom with him. It sounds like the grist for a romance fresh, but it all actually happened in the kingdom of Hollywood cinema.

It was the glamorous Grace Kelly that Prince Rainier of Monaco would meet on the French Riviera when she was playing a rich heiress in Alfred Hitchcock’s “To Obtain a Thief”. The irony is that in her other film that was released that same year, “The Country Girl”, she won a Best Actress Academy Award by playing the only role of her short but well-known career that was decidedly against type.

Whereas Kelly, the Philadelphia girl who became a glamorous fashion model in Original York, played her natural image in every respect in two Hitchcock classics, “Rear Window” and “To Accumulate a Thief”, she was challenged in the film in between by director George Seaton, who adapted the play of hard-boiled Depression playwright Clifford Odets to the veil in “The Country Girl”.

Kelly’s character is the opposite of what she appears to be in the early stages of the film. She plays the wife of hard luck Broadway actor-singer Bing Crosby, who has never been able to assuage the guilt he felt over not being able to put their son and only child from death in a Unique York traffic accident.

Crosby takes to alcohol and becomes extremely uncomfortable, using Kelly as a crutch. He implores her to create decisions, including some unpopular ones that beget people furious with her, all the while seeking to narrate himself as an all-purpose nice guy who is relaxed and at peace with himself.

When Broadway stage director William Holden seeks to case Crosby as his lead in an upcoming production he is fought tenaciously by the show’s producer and prevails only after insisting he will promenade out if not given an opportunity to at least contemplate how well the outmoded performer plays in a Boston hurry prior to coming to Modern York. If he does not pan out then Crosby will be replaced.

Holden, who is on the rebound from a tragic divorce, is immediately skeptical of Kelly. He believes her to be the scrape slow her husband’s lack of confidence and tough times after earlier Broadway successes. As he learns more and more he not only changes his mind about Kelly and apologizes; he falls in treasure with her.

This is a film about the trials and tribulations of Broadway theatrical people and their determination to rise above all obstacles. The trio of Kelly, Crosby and Holden promenade on eggshells concerning the indicate and added complications resulting from the director’s increasing admiration for the star’s wife.

Kelly plays her role with ample sensitivity. To display her in a more dour light notorious costume designer Edith Head was instructed to perform an appropriate wardrobe for her to tone down the glamour that made her world illustrious. Her hairstyles were also reflective of a sober woman unconcerned about glamour. Such a role understandably was a challenge for one of the most glamorous women ever to place foot on a Hollywood sound stage or grace the covers of fashion magazines.

The lovely Grace Kelly was awarded with the Oscar for Best Actress for her role as the long-suffering, embittered wife Georgie Elgin in The Country Girl, and rightly so. It’s a beautifully understated performance and an challenging departure for Kelly, who obviously had the guts to rob up such an unglamorous role and execute it her beget.

But the Country Girl isn’t honest about Grace Kelly. Bing Crosby and William Holden also turn in absolutely knockout performances and manage to beget their contain against the actress in this unashamedly theatrical melodrama.

Based on Clifford Odets’ play, The Country Girl is all about lies and deceit, and disappointment and blame; it’s the sage of a washed up, alcoholic actor, and his wife, who has spent the last ten years of her life caring for him, even though she’s gone to seed because of it.

Bing Crosby stars as Frank Elgin. Frank is desperate to acquire assist onto the stage. A natural showman, and a once eminent singer, Frank has sunk to an all time rude after a abominable accident took the life of his young son. Wracked with guilt and blaming himself for his death, Frank had turned to the bottle, with his control freak wife Georgie (Kelly) left to consume up the pieces.

But Frank is also a liar and a schemer, and tells Bernie Dodd (William Holden), his childhood idol, that it was actually Georgie who took up drinking and tried to commit suicide. This leads Bernie to treat Georgie badly, even though, after all these years, she has been trying to serve Frank to stand on his fill two feet.

Frank is among the best-crafted passive-aggressive characters ever and his different sets of lies to Georgie and to Frank ruin up in a wicked confrontation over who has Frank’s best interests at heart. Frank sets it up so that he’s never the dreadful guy and always the victim.

Each character brings their fill bitterness and guilt to the set - Frank unprejudiced can’t go on and let go of the pain; Georgie feels trapped in a dependent marriage, increasingly embittered; and Bernie, badly burned by his hold failed marriage, sees only animosity in a women like Georgie.

Although some of the onstage dancing and singing routines are a petite long and overly boring, the movie certainly makes up for this by giving us a number of speedy fire exchanges between the three lead characters. Viewers have a chance to survey how Hollywood stars dilapidated to transform and enlarge performances without having to rely on the distractions of worthy action.

Consequently, the showdown between Bernie and Georgie is spectacular, it’s one of the best dramatic scenes ever seen on film, even if it involves exiguous more than angst-ridden dialogue. But The Country Girl is mostly worth watching for the heavenly Grace Kelly who objective shines as the character, who refers to herself as a simple “country girl” but who clearly contains far more wisdom, pent-up desires, and street smarts than she’s willing to let on. William Castle was reknowned for his gimmicky films. For THE TINGLER he had “Percepto,” and it was a lulu: randomly selected seats in the theatre were wired with a petite motor, and at a peak moment in the film these motors came to life and literally gave your bottom a buzz! But unless you happen to have a really warped sense of humor plus some mechanical apptitude, you’ll have to forego the “Percepto” carry out and determine for one of the most weirdo stories to arrive down the street.

A doctor (Vincent Note) is studying the effects of horror. In the process, he finds that anxiety causes a defective, worm-like creature to grow inside the human body along the spine. Release your dismay by screaming, and the creature is destroyed; if for some reason you cannot bellow, however, the creature merely grows larger and larger and kills you by crushing your spine. What the salubrious doctor really wants, of course, is to lay his hands on one of these critters–and when a man murders his deaf-mute wife by scaring her to death, Dr. Vince gets his chance. Eventually “The Tingler” escapes into a movie theatre, and the seat-buzzing begins!

Price and company give it their all, and the film is as appetizing as only schlock dismay can be. Fans of the genre will hoot over the abolish, Vincent Price’s LSD wobble, the scenes where the tingler escapes into the theatre–not to mention at the monster itself, which looks like a deplorable between an overweight centipede and a lobster. And yes, you really can leer the wires! The DVD edition also includes lots of fun extras, including a short documentary on the film. Castle fans will derive a kick out of it, but all others are warned away!

I admit it! I am a sucker for traditional Dark and White awe films. They are quite tame by today’s buckets of bloody special execute large budgets ones, but they believe a fun all their contain. Especially when the ringmaster is the oh so talented Vincent Label. He was always the queer mix of silky mannered menace, with that sprinkle of humour that plot him apart from so many actors. It was that devilish twinkle in his study that always told you he enjoyed what he was doing.

The Tingler is another of the Castle extreme budget treats. Note plays a level-headed mannered doctor/research scientist married to a rich wife who is a floozy. She runs around on Designate, cares cramped that he knows it, controls her younger sister’s life, but Brand is not a man you push too far. Obsessed with discovered the results dismay has on the body, he finds out there is a critter that increases in our bodies when we are stunned, the more alarm the bigger and stronger it grows and the only thing that can kill it is screaming. Feed up with his wife’s bad ways, he convinces her he is going to waste her so he can X-ray her trying to present the existence of the Tingler.

Price gets mixed up with Olly, a husband of a theatre owner who is a deaf-mute. She goes bonkers and passes out when she sees blood. Trace wonders what would happen in her, if the Tingler is unleashed, but she cannot wail. Later, someone deliberately scares her to death, and Mark operates and removed the Tingler. But then, wife tries to consume the Tingler to strangle Stamp…all in marvelous loving fun, mind you. The pesky beastie dashes off and heads to the theatre to menace everyone there.

One impress, though the film was shot in Sad and White, the sequence where Olly’s wife is driven to death was shot in colour emphasize the red of the blood scaring her.

Great fun and it’s a bit of a tear down memory lane! A must for any fan of Castle or Brand.

When I remove up a DVD, it isn’t about extras. I abhor it when it becomes about that, too, and I mediate I’m venting a exiguous because a few high-profile reviews outside of Amazon were built on this heading. I don’t know when things got this intention and started building on the extra bus but I do know this: If I choose something like a movie it is about a movie I want to perceive and my hopes that depend on the genre expectation. With this flick, I have to say that I was not expecting a lot because it is a movie with a small bottle on it and a description that made me judge it was either a B-movie that could design me laugh or a surprise that could acquire me pleased. a lot of early reviews made me deem it was going to be the surprise share, too, because they had quite a few things to say on the capable side of the movie. Then i watched the thing, saw it was jammed with extras, and wondered if that was why it scored so highly. I know it wasn’t the movie - it was humorous here and cheap there, and it was likeable if you want that - because I plan it would be better.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Grace! Click Here

Well, maybe I didn’t assume it would be better but I did have some hopes.

There are a lot of reviews that run the movie down into puny slices, so you can pan for those if you need that. I unbiased want to say that, given my choices of movies, this was not high on my list of memories. I did like it: I had time to burn, laughed a few times, and had some friends that said, “that was descent.” Read about the movie and imagine why it could be that word, descent, and you probably hit the nail on the head. If you need a baby fear, observe up some Japanese thrillers or some Korean terror and you can score yourself going past campy and getting into horrifically peculiar. Sadly, this plotline keeps on keeping on and, well, it needs a booster shot.

Time killer, no thriller - I really wanted to want this.

I don’t usually discover panic flicks, but a couple of my friends delight in them, so I belief I’d try Grace, which had an consuming premise.

It had attractive friendly production values and gracious actors. That portion I liked. And the baby (when they showed a precise one) was cute. But frankly, I was bored. Yes, the baby wants blood to drink, but that’s more creepy than scary. I didn’t win considerable in the device dismay or surprises. There wasn’t mighty dialog, and the pacing was very expressionless. Worthy of the time I had the DVD playing at 2x rush with subtitles, so I could smooth examine what small dialogue there was. It was mostly a kill of my precious free time.

Shinichi Watanabe, the director of Excel Saga and Puni Puni Poemy is succor with another insane anime, The Wallflower.

The basic account for this anime is that 4 dazzling men (Kyohei, Yuki, Ranmaru and Takenaga) who live in an interpret mansion are given an offer they can’t refuse by the owner of the mansion. If they can transform her niece Sunako into a respectful woman, then they can live rent free…however, if they fail their rent will triple. Sounds straight forward…well they haven’t met Sunako yet. The boys agree to this challenge and the Aunt goes away to let them complete their task.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Wallflower: The Complete Collection, Part One! Click Here

To the boys’ order anxiety, sunako; despite being the niece of a rich and graceful Aunt, is a scruffy, visually unflattering, goth who likes to banish herself away in her bedroom and examine splatter movies.

What results is a hilarious and insane anime. I was laughing all the intention through these episodes. Like Watanabes previous comedy installments, this anime is totally nuts, with loud and hyperactive characters. I also particularly savor the blueprint this anime humours itself by including some serious moments, only to raze them with something hilarious happening.

The wallflower stands out from other animes as it does not stick to the usual stereotypes. In fact, it goes in the complete opposite direction and what we secure is an anti-harem comedy or bishounen anime, that is an indecent Japanese version of ‘my dazzling lady’ and ‘queer eye’. Sound wierd? Well it is. Aside from being totally hysterical, this anime is often bizarre, creepy and fair downright unfamiliar. All the women in this anime have the hots for the 4 boys, so question nose bleeds a-plenty and lots of high pitched squealing. Objective what you’d ask from the drector of Excel Saga

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Wallflower: The Complete Collection, Part One! Click Here

The animation is simply obliging, and quite surreal at times, but if you are customary to the style of Excel Saga and Puni Puni Poemy, you should feel legal at home with this. Though I must admit that the wallflower is no where arrive as crazy and insane as them. This status contains both english dub and Japanese with subtitles. I have only watched the english dub and I must say that the inform acting is residence on, with some well known anime direct actors. ie Vic Mignogna (Fleshy Metal Alchemist, Dragon ball Z Movies), Greg Ayres (Chrono Crusade Gantz), Chris Patton (Guyver bio boosted armour, Gantz) . The music is aesthetic splendid as well with mixture of classical music and hard rock.

If you are a fan of Excel Saga, you will absolutely adore this. And even newcomers will be pleased this. The Wallflower is pure nonsensical fun…and lots of it! ^^

I was on the fence about buying this - it was suggested to me because I really liked Ouran Host Club but since watching it haven’t found anything as silly or piquant.

Get off the fence and remove this up - unlike alot of animes i’ve seen that really aren’t that ‘funny’ this one really is. Yeah so the guy’s animation looks kinda….fruity…but don’t let that deter you because it makes sense once you open watching it.

Pick this up, I bought it with REALLY shameful expectations, and would have to say this is now in my top 3 animes of all time - and i’ve seen alot of anime :)

Major insight into the character of Michael, finally some of the intense emotion we all knew he had under the layers he hides under. What more can I say?

This is a mountainous documentary and thrilling movie. Being able to gaze two Olympic gold medalists and snowboarding pioneers at the same time is a treat. The cast is a diverse group that has one thing in approved, the like of snowboarding. It is a must glimpse for winter sports fans of all ages.

In terms of chronicle and instruct, this is probably the strongest film ever made about snowboarding. Dazzling photography and a really solid storyboard made this film a loyal motion recount rather than a collection of montages like you contemplate so many other boarding films. Unfortunately this film lacks the proper jaw-dropping moments you really need in a film of this caliber. This film has one or two, but needs more to really keep the interest level. Terje Haakonsen was spectacular as always, though, and any film blessed with his participation is almost always sublime.

On a side effect, I was a dinky disappointed in Shaun White’s performance in this film. It seemed as though his heart was not really in the tremendous back-country experience and that he would have rather stayed at home in the park. As a spacious fan of his riding, I was hoping to examine more of his awesome freestyle ability translate to the inaugurate terrain. I was surprised to peer him board with his freestyle binding setup (wide centered stance) rather than something more conducive to powder riding. I contemplate the film crew noticed the lack on enthusiasm and actually showed him the least of all the five riders in the steady boarding scenes (they showed plenty of his interviews) .

Overall though, I’d strongly recommend this film to any snowboarder who is truly eager in the sport.

Finally! John Huston’s extraordinary, spare adaptation of Flannery O’Connor’s darkly knowing amusing modern comes to DVD. I’ve loved this film since its fresh release — saw it repeatedly in Paris during its first accelerate there, where it was more successful critically than APOCALYPSE NOW or TESS — and have tried to rep it at every (infrequent) opportunity since. The period details are a bit off (a indecent budget guaranteed a bare-bones physical production), but the screenplay and direction couldn’t be better. And that cast! A career performance from Brad Dourif as the religion-crazed Hazel Motes, marvellous supporting work from Harry Dean Stanton, Dan Shor and Amy Wright, the ideal Sabbath Lily — and Atlanta actress Mary Nell Santacroce (mother of Dana Ivey) is unforgettable as Hazel’s landlady. O’Connor’s violent, sin-soaked South is certainly not for all tastes, nor, in its fidelity to her work, is this film. But if you answer to her vision, this record will haunt you the rest of your life. Hats off to Criterion for giving us another in their line of unbelievable restorations.

“WISE BLOOD” is an overlooked jewel.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Wise Blood! Click Here

Southern writer Flannery O’Connor’s first modern, “Wise Blood,” made it to the enormous shroud in 1979. The John Huston directed, rude budget feature was widely praised and then practically forgotten.

O’Connor was a devout Catholic. She was also battling lupus, the sometimes debilitating immune disorder. Both factors may have colored her unique. Huston was a devout atheist. His world notion certainly nuanced the tone of the film.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Wise Blood! Click Here

The record concerns a somewhat stunned, perhaps damaged, youth, Hazel Motes (Brad Dourif) . Impartial out of the army and son of a fire and brimstone Pentecostal preacher, Motes is positive to originate the first Church Withouth Christ in Taulkinham, Tennessee.

A young Brad Dourif is radiant as the driven, insecure, Motes. There’s not a deceptive mark or a wasted frame. His is a coast of spiritual self-exploration, penance and perhaps redemption. O’Connor’s curiosity about the southern trace of Pentecostal mind dwelling is riveting on film. Motes is trying to shed the harm of his ferocious religious childhood, but cannot shed his spirituality. He finds he’s a Christian in spite of himself.

Supporting actors Harry Dean Stanton, Amy Wright, Ned Beatty, William Hickey and Dan Shor are all space on.

The frisson between director Huston’s disdain for religion and O’Connor’s devoutness is a perfect match. The screenplay by brothers Benedict and Michael Fitzgerald does not stray from the core events, tone and ideas of O’Connor’s chronicle.

The obviously lower budget production, shot mostly in Macon, Georgia of the gradual 1970s, does not really detract, even though the original is site in a somewhat earlier period.

The exercise of older, rather decayed buildings and locations amidst a more recent setting give a kind of muddy, out-of-time, appeal. A nice visual metaphor to the theme of veteran fundamentalist religious views in conflict with a more progressive spirituality.

This is a original film and yarn. Hard to categorize. For me, it’s a darkly comical, decidedly gothic, fable of profound spirituality and humanism. When the shoot was over, Huston said, “I mediate I’ve been had.”

Criterion’s transfer, as usual, is shipshape and consuming. I concept the color was unusually apt and subtle. And the period monaural track crisp and easy on the ear.

The extras are all watchable. The current interviews with Dourif and the writer-producer brothers Fitzgerald are though-provoking and informative.

A expansive bonus is the rare recording of Flannery O’Connor reading her distinguished and terrific short narrative “A Satisfactory Man is Hard to Collect” is alone probably worth the trace of the disc! This is the only known recording of the author reading one of her stories.

There’s also a improbable vintage 1982 “Creativity With Bill Moyers” with director Huston.

Milos Forman has always had a knack for assembling big ensemble casts. This is particularly right in his most critically acclaimed releases (Taking Off, Amadeus and this film) . It would be difficult indeed to advance up with actors and actresses who were better helpful to have the roles in OFOTCN. This is honest in terms of both the stars, Jack Nicholson and Louise Fletcher, and the secondary characters. Who could have been a better Harding than William Redfield? A better Billy Bibbit than Brad Dourif? A better Cheswick than Sydney Lassick? And most especially, a better Chief Bromden than Will Sampson?

I execrable this movie as the best of the best of what I contemplate to be American Cinema’s golden decade, the 70s. It certainly won the widest acclaim, with its sweep of the major Oscars for 1975 (Nicholson also won best actor from the Original York Film Critics voters that year) .

Not to be overlooked is the unbelievable job performed by the film’s adaptors, Bo Goldman and Lawrence Hauben, who also won Oscars for their screenplay. Good, they did have a fairly decent stage version (by Dale Wasserman) to work with. I remember seeing an genuine production of the play, with a terrific cast, in San Francisco circa 1972. Honest as an aside, I read in the Norton Valuable edition of the modern, a review of a NY production of the play by Walter Kerr that was an absolute pan. Suffice it to say that the movie is noteworthy different than either the unusual or the play. Those familiar with Kesey’s ample unusual understand how difficult a transfer from page to conceal would be; about a third of the epic is Bromden’s delusional interior monologue. The final script, quite rightly, focuses almost exclusively on Randal P McMurphy’s struggle with Nurse Ratched for the hearts and minds of the inmates.

This is truly a gut and soul-wrenching movie, with many moments of high maniacal comedy interspersed. Though many of his other films are apt, this is Forman’s masterpiece. If you haven’t read the book, read it. It you don’t contain this movie, grasp it. There are few works in the history of American literature and film that are friendly.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975)

The film One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is adapted from a original of the same name written by Ken Kesey. The movie carries with it symbolism through color, sounds, and images and the casting could not have been more qualified. Jack Nicholson is cast in the lead role as Randle Patrick McMurphy, a ne’er-do-well who goes into a mental institution to accomplish off his jail sentence. He figures it will be more slow than the work farm. His nemesis is Nurse Ratched, cast and played extraordinarily by Louise Fletcher. The movie does well in incorporating feelings and colors that surround the viewer with the mental institution’s atmosphere. And the sounds and images establish forth by director Milos Forman add to that ambiance. One of the film’s biggest successes lies in the cinematography (or lack thereof) . Virtually all the scenes, even when the inmates go outside, are bleak and lifeless. The lighting in the institution is the fluorescent, white-out type of lighting. Every slippery hospital surface is revealed and the viewer can almost smell the hospital cleaning fluids emanating from the shroud. The hospital has no luminous overjoyed colors, either. It is filmed in the dark blues and greys of the ward that resemble the patients’ despair. The patients are dressed in gloomy grey as well and the nurse, as always, wears stark white. The nurse’s appearance also holds symbolism in it. Her uniform is always perfectly pressed. And her hat is always on straight. She represents order and authority, and her uniform is one symbolic affect of that order. It totally contrasts the patient’s mien - always disheveled, wearing demeaning hospital robes. The director uses wonderfully disenchanting sounds to characterize to the audience the harm and helplessness of the patients. One patient is constantly remarking how tired he is and other characters are constantly stuttering and “acting irregular.” Random yells echo throughout the halls. The echo allows for the hospital’s feeling of emptiness and loneliness and gives it a cavernous feel. Its halls are never ending and run from this institution is futile. The echoes bounce off every surface, trapping each patient in their contain madness. The expend of hospital noises and colors add to the realistic scenery of the film. It is masterfully done, and each audience member is forced to go through the hurt and despair of the patients. The subject matter has always been one I like. The ragamuffin character comes in and saves all the horribly despondent people from pure emotional wound. As if those patients didn’t have it poor enough, they are constantly being controlled by the Spacious Nurse. She represents order, authority - the Establishment. And these terrible souls are putting their lives in her hands, only for her to prefer advantage of them. Milos Forman puts this legend in perfect visual acquire, not using too many film techniques to grasp away from the narrative at hand. Colors, images, and sounds carried from the fresh to the cloak are constant and well-done. The feeling one gets from the movie is delicously defective, as most asylums surely are. A phenomenal account by Kesey and direction by Forman, and an uncanny portrayal of McMurphy by Nicholson, allow the sage to live on in visual execute.

An expertly-played and presented comedy that continues to be dogged by detractors for the oddest reasons. Some feel NINOTCHKA suffers compared to Lubitsch’s earlier work, finding it formulaic alongside 1933’s Pains IN PARADISE. (I hadn’t known Lubitsch had been given ‘do-what-thou-wilt’ privileges from the Hays Office - I’d labored under the delusion he faced the same restrictions in direct and tone every other moviemaker did in 1939.) Other nay-sayers decry the film’s jabs at Soviet collectivism as ‘dated’ if not ‘unenlightened’. (Huh? You mean reveal trials and forced starvation of kulaks were Edifying things that a truly witty screenplay would celebrate? ) Peaceful other kibitzers assure over the casting, of all things! (While it IS fun to relate William Powell or Robert Montgomery in the role of Leon, the boulevardier, Melvyn Douglas was never better than he is here. If he has his spotty moments, it’s in those scenes where he must swoon with ardor, reciting dialogue that rings a tad purple to the ear; it’s quite possible Powell or Montgomery would have fared even worse reading those lines.) Okay, enough defensive posturing - now let’s go to NINOTCHKA’s numerous strengths. Garbo is magnificent; she has a genuine knack for comedy (her deadpan entrance is hilarious) yet, as always, is able to wreck your heart with a notice, a word, a gesture. Her three ’stooges’ (Sig Rumann, Alexander Granach & Felix Bressart) are broadly comical and genuinely endearing. Ina Claire is everything her story always claimed she was - though her character is icily calculating, you can’t detest any woman who can do dialogue bristle like this. Lubitsch is in complete content throughout; his staging and pacing of the proceedings masterful in its seeming effortlessness. Even the storied Metro glitz shines in NINOTCHKA, fair down to the shiny artifice of Cedric Gibbons’ art direction (the Eiffel Tower sets especially) . Last but not least is the splendid screenplay by (among other hands) the team of Charles Brackett & Billy Wilder. Wisely, their satiric darts are dipped in a curare leavened by wit and sentiment, and while they are thrown with accuracy, their sting is never such that the satire sinks into the mire of political ideology. NINOTCHKA, after all, is about the triumph of cherish over politics, and to those who feel faint from the prevailing toilet-ethic of the Farrelly Brothers’ blood-poisoning of novel comedy, represents a much-needed antidote. Inoculate yourself at your earliest opportunity.

Greta Garbo plays a stern-faced Soviet official (”Ninotchka”) who arrives in Paris on business engrossing the sale of some extremely rare and distinguished czarist jewels. But soon she discovers the magic of Paris and falls for a Frenchman named Leon D’Algout (played by Melvyn Douglas) . But Ninotchka must now decide between like and duty to Russia, and she must also contend with another woman, the exiled Titanic Duchess Swana (played by Ina Claire), who wants Leon for herself. Will Ninotchka and Leon’s romance be able to survive against these obstacles? Contemplate and accept out!

With a tantalizing, witty, and fast-paced script written by Billy Wilder, Charles Brakkett, and Walter Reisch, and a mammoth supporting cast including Bela Lugosi (who plays a Soviet officer!!!), Sig Ruman, Felix Bressart, Alexander Granach, and Richard Carle, this very savory Ernst Lubitsch comedy is level-headed very racy after more than 65 years! While some of the dialogue is dated and corny and the film is a minute too long, overall I highly recommend this classic, as well as “Comrade X”, with Clark Gable and resplendent Hedy Lamarr, a film which I gain is very worthy to “Ninotchka”.
