In this modern film he paints a one-third celebratory, two-thirds tragic portrait of the Paskowitz family, a once-legendary surfing clan whose patriarch, Dorian “Doc” Paskowitz dropped out of mainstream society in the tedious 1950s, to follow a near-absolute rejection of unique materialism. Paskowitz and his wife traveled anywhere on a whim for over a decade, surfing up and down the Pacific, Atlantic and Gulf Coasts of North America, surfing, having lots of sex and making lots of babies. In all, the Paskowitzes had nine children, eight boys and one girl, and raised them outside the confines of “straight” life. Instead of going to school, the children surfed, and were reared according to their father’s brave, yet ill-defined personal ethic.

Although Doc’s decision to descend out preceded the hippie movement by almost a decade, his family’s lag intersected with the 1960s hippie-era rejection of cultural norms, and with the “Me Generation” self-absorption of the ’70s. But while these larger cultural shifts were widespread, the choices of the Paskowitz family were distinguished more far-reaching and severe than most of the counterculture types of the time. With no fixed income and a total abandonment of the American work ethic, the Paskowitzes were both legendary and tragic. As the children came of age, the strains of traveling together in a slight camper intensified, and the family fragmented and fell apart.

Just how worthy they fell apart is revealed in the film’s second half, which skillfully explores the gloomy side of Doc’s impulsive and absolutist philosophical rejectionism. Each of the (now grown-up) children contemplate on the internal pressures (and joys) of their vulgar lifestyle, and how completely unprepared it left them to fabricate their bear entry into adult life. Although the Paskowitzes dominated surf competitions in the early 1970s — and got grand media attention and corporate sponsorship — because they were so naive about money matters, none of them held onto the money or the opportunities they made, and their professional careers largely fizzled out. Many of the children rightfully roar their inflame towards their parents for leaving them stranded without education or options, and the film is a sharp reflection on the potential hazards of obscene alternative lifestyles. Although Doc Paskowitz clearly shoulders distinguished of the blame, he remains a sportive and compelling figure. Many of his critiques of unique society are pointed and incisive, and his candid assessments of consumerism, wage slavery and sexual repression are dazzling due to his bluntness and accuracy. It is a complex portrait, and doesn’t offer easy answers to the viewer, but rather many disturbing points to ponder. Definitely worth checking out. (DJ Joe Sixpack, Slipcue Film Reviews)

Anyone looking for a shapely ode to the surfing life should end a moment before viewing this terrific documentary film about life in the Paskowitz family. Although surfing was the stated main focus of this highly unconventional family’s life, it’s not the center of the account that’s revealed in the film. Kudos to the filmmakers, who peel attend the layers of the record gradually until you net the sense of the awfulness at the center. We look a life that on the face of it might appear titillating — who hasn’t at some time or other wished for a more ‘authentic’ life? What if we could ride the rules of the prevailing society? What if we weren’t forced to be educated in institutional settings? This film and all the Paskowitz children, who thankfully are bold enough to assert of what they endured at the whims of two of the most narcissistic parents you’ll ever meet, will give some answers to those questions. Abundant with archival footage that makes the past near alive, the film also gives us interviews with everyone in the family that will resonate with you for a long time after you thought it. You may well be left with lots of questions after it’s over, but one is very contented to gawk that the kids seem to have made gracious lives for themselves despite the dreadful models that were their parents. In any case, this is a film for anyone who loves kindly documentary filmmaking — you don’t have to know anything about surfing to like this one.

Ok, first of all, the movie is done as well as it could have been. It does leaves out some facts that the book felt was necessary to include. But miniscule things must be omitted. They did the best job possible that they could have done to eliminate less distinguished residence lines. The opening scenes could have been allowed more time, and made it feel less rushed, but it worked out well. The acting in this movie is a positive improvement over those last 3 movies. You will applaud Daniel Radcliffe’s performance. Emma Watson is as great of an unbelievable actress as she has always been, and I level-headed deem that she is underused. Her scenes at the Yule Ball were awe-inspiring. The effects, visual and CG, are fantastic. You can feel as if you are there suitable now. Ralph Fiennes plays Voldemort beautifully and sends chills down your spine and makes you loath him from his first second on mask. Miranda Richardson really hit the nail on the head with Rita Skeeter. Her scenes are some of the funniest of the entire movie. The Director of this installment of the highly successful Harry Potter series was Mike Newell. He does an outstanding job. There are some scenes that are so cinematically fabulous. The overall feel of the film is without a fast-paced action thriller. You awe for Harry’s life every second of the film. I was thoroughly impressed with this film, and with the fifth book being my popular, I am praying that the film works wonders.

SCENE 8: The trio discuss their suspicions about what Karkarov has on his arm. Hermione asks Harry what ingredients Snape reflect he stole from him, and she relises that they are all ingredients in a polyjuice potion.

In this forth instalment in the ever approved Harry Potter series based on the recent by JK Rolwling we contemplate Harry venerable in many ways, he must over approach three deadly tasks, face a fully formed Lord Voldermort and possibly the most horrifying task of all for the 14 year stale Harry, he must win himself a date for the Yule Ball!

The performance of the trio in the Goblet of Fire is wonderful, every scene seemed to be executed perfectly and the on camouflage chemistry between the young stars is evident. Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) reaches unusual heights in this movie perfectly portraying the dismal adolescent Harry has become; he faces the recent emotional roles in the movie with confidence and enthusiasm, like wise for Radcliffe’s young co-stars Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) Once again we contemplate terrific performances from the likes of Dame Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall), Alan Rickman (Professor Snape) and Robbie Coltraine (Hagrid) as well as meeting some unique faces amongst the students, including students from two other magical academies who join the students at Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry to participate in the Tri-Wizard Tournament! Another highlight of this marvellous movie is Ralph Fiennes’ portrayal of Lord Voldermort which can be rather alarming even to an adult!

I maintain this movie to be of an gracious standard not only due to the charismatic trio, but also thanks to the special effects of this movie. We inspect many enchanting creatures including a ferocious fire breathing dragon (which Harry must fight armed with nothing but his wand!) and while watching you can truly forget that these creatures were created using blue mask and you can honestly absorb that you are in this world, that it truly exists impartial gradual closed doors. This is very good to the novels making this a movie every Potter fan can devour and indeed fans of spectacular plots and mind-blowing special effects alike can be pleased this, making the Goblet of Fire a movie for all the family! Overall I would call this movie riveting and n absolute gem of the movie world. You do not want to miss this shiny allotment of film history, no DVD collection would be complete with out it! This may be the single-best tool you could ever glimpse to understand how one tremendous cinematic mind realized its vision. Scorsese is selfless; he shows us how his vision came to be. Most directors would rather us not notice how their illusions are created; Scorsese’s purpose is the complete opposite.

This site includes three video cassettes (75 minutes apiece) . He begins by focusing on the American Western, an understandable starting station as the American Western is arguably the most indigenous genre Americans can lay claim to. The most enlightening portion from this piece was his analysis of three John Ford movies, starring John Wayne. Scorsese’s purpose was to exhibit how the Western, along with Ford, grew more complex in three decades. As he says, “Same Director, Ford. Same star, John Wayne. Same setting, Monument Valley.” However the image of the black-and-white cowboy-and-Indian hero of “Stagecoach” is a incompatibility between Ford’s later “The Searchers,” where Wayne’s character Ethan Allen is “richer, more complex,” Scorsese says. He IS richer and more complex — a gruesome hero. Scorsese’s point is made: that cinema is ever expanding, the pallete becoming ever more complex, that filmmakers grow themselves. The second half of tape-1 focuses on gangster films; Scorsese was in territory he loved here. His examine of the gangster film’s development from “The Musketeers of Pig Alley” through Howard Hawkes’s “Scarface,” to Francis Ford Coppola’s “Godfather” tale is an education in the development of American cinema itself.

The second tape is my current. Scorsese focuses on films you might not have heard of, but films that are achievements in American cinema: films that touched him. Jacque’s Tourneau’s “Cat People” (I deem that’s the title) and “I Walked With A Zombie,” movies that are truly rich films but that have sadly been forgotten or dubbed ‘B’-class films, Scorsese says. And it’s correct. These films created techniques and philosophies that changed American cinema — they enhanced and developed the techniques that are the “illusions” that we too often capture for granted as being the current movie. From watching this piece I realized how a film like “Blair Witch” (whether you liked it or hated it) was influenced by guys working on shoe-string budgets (Tourneau) but with the fancy of cinema; in the case of Tourneau, of scaring the pants off an audience with a minimal budget. Likewise, it becomes certain to recognize how Film Noir was “a mood,” Scorsese says. And it was a mood. It was frigid. It was indifferent. It was Pulp Fiction. There are comments by the legendary Billy Wilder on film noir, his “Double Indemnity” epitomizing the style. Wilder’s comments were insightful, and Wilder is a pleasure to stare on camera. I appreciate this guy. He’s like a blend of Yoda and Robin Williams.

The second half focuses on the “Director as Smuggler” and this blends into the third tape’s “Director as Smuggler II.” Comments by Douglas Sirk, Nicholas Ray — eye-patch and all, insightful, insightful stuff. Ray says something that was kind a revelation to me. If you’re hero isn’t neurotic, or as neurotic as the audience, if he isn’t as [messed] up then how can an audience identify with him, you know? Paint the hero flawed — or at least as flawed as you and I — and that diagram when they do something sizable, when they do something fearless, we can identify and say, “Man, I could have done that.”

The behind-the-scenes footage of Samuel Fuller was hilarious — tragic, in its hold device — and yet silly. “Don’t wave the GD flag at me!” And Hoover objected, Fuller said. I loved this!

There are comments by more contemporary “smugglers” George Lucas, Francis Coppola — on the digital age of American cinema. Coppola’s advice is to embrace the modern technology. Lucas’s was less convincing, but not-without-point. “Why utilize the money,” Lucas says, “To transport hundreds of extras, to feed them, to clothe them, when they can be reproduced digitally.” I listened to this skeptically — thinking of film’s like “Braveheart,” where the director (Gibson) did haul all those extras out there and shoot those scenes. And then I belief of “Gladiator” — Academy Awards or no — it was easy to gawk that many of the chronicle shots were digitally reproduced. And I realized movies such as “Braveheart,” “The Tumble of the Roman Empire” (which Scorsese discusses) are sadly portion of bygone era. It’s simply too expensive to obtain those kinds of movies without digital “smuggling.” So, I exclaim Coppola’s words ring right — it’s wise to embrace the modern technology.

The final fragment of the third tape focuses on “The Iconoclast” — filmmaker’s who went at the system head-on. Here you’ll derive more recognizable names and Scorsese’s discussions on how their films engaged him personally: DW Griffith, Charlie Chaplin, Orson Welles, Stanley Kubrick, John Cassevetas. I’ve watched the fragment on Kubrick’s “Barry Lyndon” several times impartial to realize exactly what Scorsese sees when he discusses individual scenes in the film. It is a selfless coast.

Equally gripping for the film novice and scholar alike, Martin Scorsese provides us with an uniquely personal opinion of American cinema. This thoroughly enthralling video series will intrigue all those who are open-minded enough to learn from the ample vartiety of films which Scorsese has selected. This is a far yell from pretentious film school fare. Scorsese is equally comfortable discussing B-films as well as the more established classics. The seventh season of this series aired in the second half of 1993. It is vital for a number of reasons, the most clear being that it marked the slay of an era in terms of the overall tone and peep of the expose. Starting with the show’s eighth season, which aired the following year, nearly all the hallmarks of the display - all the touchstones that made the series what it was - would be gone. That being said, however, the raze of the “European Vacation” episodes and the “beginning” of the seventh season can be a bit jarring when viewing the shows in succession. While the aforementioned episodes urge parallel to the themes, tone and overall ogle of the present during its third and fourth seasons, the remaining 14 episodes note a stark dissimilarity to them.

By the time 1993 rolled around, Saturday morning cartoons were changing. Light and fluffy were out; sunless and edgy were in. The “beginning” of the seventh season (after the “European Vacation” episodes) marked a trial accelerate into this territory. Episodes were a bit darker in theme than they had been in seasons past, but not so great that what made the prove spacious in the first set - humor, pizza references, and terrific characters - was lost. It wasn’t until the eighth season that the reveal went whole hog and introduced a completely revamped (darker and edgier) premise, virtually dropping everything fans had near to know and care for about the series.

The first foray in this experiment was “Night of the Sad Turtle,” a extraordinary episode that sees Donatello temporarily scrutinize a darker side to his personality. Everything about this episode works: terrific humor, broad action sequences, outstanding animation, and rocking background music. “Night of the Dismal Turtle” is not only a highlight of the seventh season, but it represents one of the best episodes of the entire series.

Something that is not a highlight, however, is the loss of James Avery (”Current Prince of Bel Air”) halfway through the season as the suppose of Shredder. From the beginning of the series, James Avery managed to build Shredder a three-dimensional character, as opposed to a run-of-the-mill, one-note, cardboard cutout that most villains on cartoons encapsulate. Shredder could be scary, for definite, as a typical awful guy; but he could also be quite hilarious, and Avery breathed distinguished life into the role. Many fans idea Shredder and Krang as a married couple because of the amount of bickering they do with each other. The improvisations that both actors brought to their roles created lasting characters that fans loved, even though they were villains. After Avery left the demonstrate for reasons unknown, the negate actor who replaced him did absolutely nothing with the Shredder role except to play it as a stereotypical, one-dimensional terrible guy. To say that James Avery was missed as the seventh season came to a halt is a tremendous understatement.

THE DVD SET

To celebrate the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 25th anniversary (somehow, Young Adult Mutant Ninja Turtles doesn’t have quite the same ring to it), Lionsgate has decided to do something a limited different with the release of the seventh season. It has been broken up into four parts, or slices, and each Turtle has one. When combined the four slices fit together to perform one scene on your DVD shelf.

But the surprises don’t halt there. Each DVD lop will also include an recent Ninja Turtles toy from Playmates, the toy company that produced the classic Turtle toys all through the show’s bustle. I may not always like the DVD releases Lionsgate comes up with for this exhibit, but the fact that they have pulled out some major stops to celebrate the show’s 25th anniversary is commendable and has me eagerly anticipating May 12, 2009.

Side note: only the most die-hard of fans will study this, but it is worth pointing out: in the modern cartoon series, the Turtle with the orange bandana was always known as Michaelangelo. When the unique cartoon aired in 2003, the spelling was changed to Michelangelo. It looks like Lionsgate has decided to go with the second spelling of Mikey’s name for this DVD spot. Even though I procure this annoying, it’s a minor quibble.

season 7 is the second the last regular season of ninja turtles, but as soon as season 9 comes, theres no more shredder…an DREGG replace him at 9 an 10.

Shredder an Krang does reach wait on at middle of season 10…only for 3 episdoes.

“Harlem Rides the Range” - A typical ‘B’ western with all the standard elements. There’s a struggle over a radium mine, a frame-up, an elope, and of course, some music. Singing cowboy Herb Jeffries is accompanied here by the Four Tones and the Four Blackbirds.

“Moon Over Harlem” - Fragments of this movie have been lost, so it suffers a bit from lack of continuity. It’s the tale of a woman and daughter who tumble victim to her current husband, a gangster with no redeeming qualities. While stealing from his bride the man lusts after his step-daughter.
