I am dating myself woefully, but I remember seeing this film when it came out in theatres. I trekked some distance (via bus) down to some theatre in Hollywood (I’m from another section of L.A.) because it wasn’t showing anywhere nearby. I wanted to eye it *that* dreadful. And I certainly wasn’t disappointed.

When I finally got a DVD player, one of the first DVDs I got was “Local Hero”. It’s definitely on my “must-have” list.

The chronicle is simple — materialistic Peter Reigert is sent to a miniature Scottish village to try to negotiate a land deal for his rich, eccentric boss (Burt Lancaster, who is outstanding) . He arrives in Scotland as a guy who is only obsessed with business deals, his car, and his posessions serve in Texas, but soon he learns there are more significant things in life. The townsfolk are absolutely amazing, all in their beget original, eclectic procedure. Denis Lawson particularly shines as “jack of all trades” who holds several positions in the community, including innkeeper.

The oddness and beauty of this film takes time to unfold, and it is best unbiased to sit abet and leer it happen. Everyone seems to have a fable, everyone is eccentric in some device. I especially loved Burt Lancaster and his interaction with his “therapist”, who takes the job *far* too seriously. Lancaster plays one of the most likeable and novel characters onscreen. Reigert too, is endearing. He so wants to be “normal” that he can’t even admit that he might expend a shampoo for dry or greasy hair. “Normal. EXTRA normal.”, he says, when asked what kind of shampoo he needs. What an uptight guy he seems at first, but he soon mends his ways.

The regain by Tag Knopfler is among one of my favorites too. I can play it and it brings befriend the whole atmosphere and mood of this film. The musical section played at the raze of the movie is heart-wrenching and brings befriend the sweetness of the extinguish of this comely movie every time I hear it.

Director Bill Forsythe created an absolute gem in this movie. A must-have in *every* film collection. Absolutely edifying.

Knox Oil rules Houston. The Knox headquarters tower over the Houston skyline, and KNOX radio brings Houston its weather and traffic represent. Knox Oil is owned by Felix Happer (Burt Lancaster), whose father bought the company from its Scottish-born founder; but unfortunately neglected to change the name to “Happer Oil.” Now Knox Oil needs to catch a situation for a refinery in Scotland, and the most appropriate site happens to be a village called Furness, far up on the Northern Scottish wing. And the Knox people don’t consume no prisoners - they determine to simply go ahead and steal the whole village. The man they’re sending to Scotland to negotiate is Mac MacIntyre (Peter Riegert), whose presumably Scottish roots are going to gain it easy for him to bond with the locals and halt the deal (actually, his family is from Hungary and changed their names to MacIntyre because “they notion that’s America”) .

Reluctantly Mac takes off (he would distinguished have preferred to handle the matter over the wires), bringing an electrically locked briefcase, a view beeping a signal for “conference time in Houston,” pictures of his Porsche 930 (”I got migraine headaches when I was unexcited driving a Chevy”) and the tough-nosed, textbook negotiating skills of a Texas oil man. He is not very impressed with the backwater ways of Furness at first - although he does instantly gape that there’s “a lotta landscape here.” But slowly and inexorably, his attitude changes. Walking along the beach, his steps grow longer and slower, more contemplative. He starts to accept shells. His business suit makes method for a woolen sweater. And his treasured survey dies a monotonous death as it tries to signal “conference time in Houston” one last time from its underwater grave. Instead of rapid closing the deal and leaving again, Mac has let the dwelling acquire to him. There is Danny Oldsen (Peter Capaldi), Mac’s Knox Oil companion from Aberdeen, who falls in like with a local marine biologist (Jenny Seagrove) with her occupy designs for Furness Bay, which have nothing to do with a refinery and everything with the bay’s preservation. There is Viktor (Christopher Rozycki), a fisherman from Murmansk who has discovered capitalism on the remote Scottish North Sea shores and routinely stops by to visit his friends there and check in on the investments Gordon Urquhart has made for him. There is Reverend Macpherson (Gyearbuor Asante), who despite his last name is about as Scottish as the Lone Star in the Texas flag, but whose erstwhile presumably African accent, after years of living in Furness, has nevertheless taken an unmistakably Scottish tinge. And there is the local villagefolk; wily, earthbound, unpretentious and hard working, nevertheless almost over-eager to cash in; and far from stubbornly clinging to their roots, soon finding themselves discussing the relative merits of a Rolls Royce and a Maserrati (measured by the cars’ respective utility in transporting sheep) and musing that “it ain’t easy being rich.” Except, that is, for Ben Knox (!) (Fulton Mackay), who owns an primary share of the beach and who will not give up the land given to an ancestor of his by the king himself for “turning a thing for him” (killing the king’s brother) centuries ago; not even for the promise of a couple of miles of pristine beach in Hawaii.

The movie’s dialogue is as unpretentious and understated as it is witty - Glasgow-born director Bill Forsyth was responsible for the script, too, and it shows. But the film’s single most outstanding feature is nature itself; the rugged cliffs, endless and ever-changing skies, windswept, forlorn beaches and stormy sea of Scotland’s northern skim. And the brooding, sorrowful mood of those beaches, cliffs, misty glens and mountains is perfectly captured by the music calm by another son of Scotland, Stamp Knopfler (like Forsyth born in Glasgow), whose very first film accumulate remains one of his most poignant and best-known to date - there probably isn’t a Knopfler fan out there who doesn’t instantly perceive the movie’s theme song “Going Home,” even if he has never seen the movie itself. “Local Hero” is Forsyth’s and Knopfler’s declaration of worship to their native land; a humble, evocative appeal for its preservation which merits every bit of attention it has (belatedly) received.

I was extremely aroused to receive this DVD…. Upon opening it, one gets the feeling that it is truly a special edition. The packaging is very nice: the DVD box is sturdy with two openings for each disk. The pamphlet inside the DVD is gorgeously produced and very trustworthy.

My first impression is that Disney has spent considerable time making this DVD user-friendly. There is an abundance of directions and drawings showing you what is on the disk and how to derive there. Since there are two disks and a KINGDOM of information to pour through, these directions are very welcome (even to this seasoned DVD-viewer!)

Disney pulls out some familiar faces to earn the experience as warm as possible: Disney himself appears in various footage; Angela Lansbury narrates the documentary and provides a “tour” of the disks; Michael Eisner shows up; and Barbra Streisand sings a specially recorded version of “Some Day My Prince Will Advance”.

SNOW WHITE, the movie, looks aesthetic and, although frail fashioned, is quite fabulous. SNOW WHITE, the double-disk, is a lot of information to wade through. I am amazed at the amount of behind-the-scenes film that exists! Disney must have suspected that he was creating a classic - he filmed every aspect of it! I especially delight in the HALL OF ART portion. There are 3 halls of various epic art (i.e. “The cottage”; “The castle”; “the Forest”; etc.) Although initially I found it hard to disappear from hall to hall, I eventually figured it out. The attractive HALLS are improbable and the art that “hangs” there is extraordinary — various renderings and attempts at bringing the anecdote and locales of SNOW WHITE alive. It’s even more unbelievable that Disney Co. held on to these papers for all these years.

Well, in case you can’t recount, I highly recommend the special SNOW WHITE disks. You will utilize days looking at everything that is included — or you can opt to expend an hour and a half viewing the novel,shapely film that started the Disney empire….

The Blu-ray looks extraordinary. For this classic film from 1937 to observe so vibrant, so spectacular, so pleasing 72 years later is a testament towards Disney’s restoration and remastering. The describe quality is absolutely pristine. The original lossless 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio is heavenly. “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Diamond Edition” is highly recommended!

JUDGMENT CALL:

When the first “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” Platinum Edition DVD was released support in 2001, I felt that the DVD place the bar of the amount of special features and how innovative a DVD can be through seamless branching technology. Needless to say, the DVD won several awards for its technology and so, when the announcement came that “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” will receive a Diamond Edition Blu-ray disc release, I was inviting to search for how Disney could top themselves because that release was already phenomenal.

I have since gone through the Blu-ray release and all I can say is…Wow!

Disney has not only topped the Platinum Edition release, they have site the bar once again for a Blu-ray release and the amount of command that can be included on a Blu-ray and let alone, how awesome they were able to digitally restore the classic 1937 film.

There was no doubt in my mind that Disney would give their first though-provoking feature on Blu-ray the best treatment as possible and as this release is a celebration of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”, it’s also a celebration of the talent gradual the film. Those who were alive to with Hyperion Studios that created the “Droll Symphonies” bright shorts aid in the early 1930’s and using the technology at that time and building it, in order to build their first corpulent feature tantalizing masterpiece.

In fact, not only do we regain audio of those who worked on the film but we also are treated with those classic exciting shorts such as “Babes in the Woods”, “The Skeleton Dance”, “Music Land”, “Goddess of Spring”, “Mischievous Pluto”, “The Weak Mill”, “Steamboat Willie” and more. And to get things even more impressive, these shorts are featured in HD (not cleaned up but aloof great better than their DVD counterparts) . So, overall it’s a no-brainer that “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Diamond Edition” is definitely worth it. For High Definition fans, the film looks and sounds absolutely resplendent on Blu-ray. And as mentioned, the sheer amount of screech included in this release is absolutely improbable.

I really don’t have any negatives but me being nitpicky that it would have been nice to have definite special features such as the vintage radio/audio jabber, a few deleted scenes, songs and video clip excerpts from the 2001 Platinum Edition DVD included on the Diamond Edition. And personally, for me that is the only thing that prevents me from calling this release absolute perfection. There was one other thing and that is my Blu-ray discs came in a sunless DVD case, not the standard blue casing. I was told that there will be two releases (in different casing, not inc. the dinky edition) with one in a blue Blu-ray case and another using shadowy DVD casing in order to educate those fresh to Blu-ray.

I do contemplate that Diamond Edition and the Platinum Edition are quite different in terms of presentation of special features and the goals were quite different of what kind of special features would be presented. With the Platinum Edition, its solely focused on “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” and in the Diamond Edition, there is more focus on giving the viewer the history of Walt Disney and the animators of how they got from Comic Symphonies to using their skills and technology in creating the first lively feature film. So, as I have said earlier in my review, this release is more or less, a celebration of those who worked on the film and giving recognition to those animators and staff members who took allotment in that film and the work that they did earlier, that became instrumental in creating Snow White.

So, overall…the Diamond Edition is impartial unbelievable when it comes to the steady digital restoration of this classic film and a release that is absolutely packed with special features. “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Diamond Edition” is a solid release that raises the bar of what Disney is suited of in terms of assert in a home video release. This is truly a resplendent release and is highly recommended!

The slack huge Polish director Krzysztof Kieslowski cleverly “adapted” the three French ideals — liberty, equality, fraternity — into three thought-provoking modern-day dramas about people who cope with personal losses and tragedies. In BLUE, the first of the trilogy, a widow tries to region herself free (and secure liberty) from her emotional baggages. The second film, WHITE, is about a jilted man’s contaminated status to glean even (thus, equality) with his ex-wife. The last film, RED, which is also Kieslowski’s final film before he died in 1996, is about a lonely feeble man who is embittered by the memories of his youth and finds accidental companionship (fraternity) with a young model. All three films are understated in their tone, economical in their dialogs, elliptical in their editing and plotting (there are some mind-boggling flashbacks and flash forwards in WHITE), and haunting in their atmosphere.

The references to the three French ideals are actually quite tenuous, and in fact more and more so as the trilogy progresses. BLUE is the only one that deals with the ideal of “freedom” (albeit emotional freedom) in a concrete map, appealing us to ponder its meanings and its attainability. WHITE treats the belief of “equality” in a rather subversive and satiric procedure, and it clearly wants us to rethink its meanings rather than accepting it at face value. And RED has to do with “fraternity” only circumstantially, and has more to do with the mumble of destiny, and how our past is linked to our reveal. The three films are region not unbiased in France, but also in Poland and Switzerland, and WHITE has primarily Polish dialogs. Hence, a sort of universality is intended.

The three films are also linked in various ways. All three films involve an unfaithful lover who dies, in one diagram or another. All three films involve a chance encounter between the distressed protagonist and a sympathetic observer — the widow and the mistress in BLUE, Karol and Mikolaj in WHITE, the retired reflect and the model in RED. Both BLUE and WHITE are about people who travel to original surroundings to dash from his or her disturbed pasts. And RED, ironically, is about someone who never leaves his home in order to wallow in his self-pity.

Kieslowski had done this sort of thing before. In 1988, he “adapted” the Ten Commandments into ten one-hour, modern-day dramas, collectively titled DECALOGUE, that earn us rethink the meanings of the commandments. In the segment for “Thou Shalt Not Prefer,” for instance, we survey the kidnapping (the theft) of a child from her adopted parents by her natural mother, who thinks she has a lawful to her custody. Thus, it turns clear-cut good ideals into real-world dramas that have no clear-cut solutions or judgments.

Miramax released long-awaited Region-1 DVDs for the Three Colors trilogy, and they all have estimable video transfers and rewarding extra material. The Three Colors Trilogy comprises 3 great films (Bleu/Blanc/Rouge) by the leisurely, substantial director Krzysztof Kieslowski. The films exhaust the symbolism expressed by the colors of the French flag for their themes (liberty, equality, fraternity) . The Three Colors is Kieslowski’s crowning achievement, and Rouge, his final film, is probably his masterpiece. That’s saying something, because some of his previous films (Decalogue, The Double Life of Veronique) are among the greatest films of the last 20 years! I saw Bleu (with Juliette Binoche) a long time ago and was very impressed. It’s a dusky but beautful movie, about a composer’s widow and how she copes with life after his death. Blanc (with Julie Delpy) is about life for a man after he is unceremoniously dumped by his wife; it’s the lightest and most comedic of the three films. Rouge (with Irene Jacob) is my popular and explores the downhearted (and platonic) relationship that develops between a young lady and an older man. Jacob is quite simply a goddess, and if you can trudge your eyes away from her long enough to pay attention to the movie, you’ll obtain this is a thematically rich film with solid, subtle performances (Kieslowski was nominated for a Best Director Oscar for Rouge in 1995) . I am lucky enough to occupy a DVD of Rouge which has a ton of extras (making of, deleted scenes, soundtrack samples, trailers, film-making lesson by the director, Cannes festival interviews, extended interviews with editor, director, and *sigh* Irene Jacob) . I enjoy the upcoming Miramax DVDs maintain these features (with subtitles), which are in French. More Americans should experience these films. They are so well-made and lovingly crafted that they effect to shame all the multi-million dollar, shallow, explosion-fests routinely shovelled out by Hollywood nowadays. Next to Stanley Kubrick and Akira Kurosawa, Krzysztof Kieslowski’s death in the 1990s is one of the most tragic for cinema. Younger filmmakers should hope one day to come even an iota of the MANY lustrous masterpieces created of these film masters. Look The Three Colors Trilogy! This is film-making at its finest and totally a 5 STAR recommendation!

I first heard of the “Bastard!!” series support in the early 90’s and recalled many fans at an anime convention talking about how frigid the series was and how amusing it was because of the main character’s name (Dusky Schneider) and the many references to well-liked US metal bands (from the 80’s) .

After watching all six episodes, I impartial fell in fancy with this series. There have been several “Bastard!!” video games available for the SNES and Sony Playstation and the series has yet to be “fully completed”, although the six-OAV episode arc is unbiased totally awesome!

The series is about an foul warlock named “Black Schneider” who has been freed from imprisonment and fortunately, the atrocious warlock has been combined with a very capable kid named Rushe which makes him somewhat a hero to help the people of Meta-Rikana” and choose on his faded generals and army.

The storyline is unbiased awesome but since this anime includes combat, humor and wizardry…the battles can be bloody and too violent for some people.

I dont’ know if you have ever heard of this particular series, but I recently purchased it while at the local video store. It’s lovely chilly. Kind of reminds me of lodoss war, in the sense that every living creature is like a giant bag of blood, and if you’re gash BAM!!! you spring a leak like a water mane busting.

I renowned the main character, Dusky Schneider, or Darsh, is very intreguing. His character progresses unruffled nicely throught the series, going from not detached pure harmful to a reluctant hero. IF you deem you;ve seen someone with more ego than this guy, you’re probably unfriendly, but on the plus side this 400 year faded mage has the power to support up his mouth.

The first (of 6) episode, an annoying mage, with some power, is attacking the town, now Darsh is freed from his imprisonment, inside a limited boy to fight this threat. He can only be freed if kissed by a virgin. Fortuantely, Yoko, Rusha’s best friend (the petite boy who house’s this elegant mage) has been unwittingly prepared for this day her whole life.

OF course, being spoiled as he is, and having been iprisoned for the last 15 years, Darsh decides, as his first act, to ruin everyone instead, but the invader gets in the method, and cuts darsh’s face, drawing blood. Then Dark’s power is unleashed, and the invader (calls himself the invisible…. I can’t remember his name) gets a heaping helping of a dish I call severe damage laced with VENOM (discover teh reveal you’ll gather why I spelled it in caps) .

Now the astronomical picture:

You peek Darsh’s aged generals, his ex girlfiriend, and his primitive army have decided to buy over the world like he would have if he hadn’t been imprisoned. The four generals, are delicate wintry. Althought I judge they were based off Relate of Lodoss War, or it was based on them, one or the other.

One, a ninja master, reminds me of Ashram from Recount of Lodoss War. While the ex-girlfriend, and Darsh’s adopted duaghter. (there’s a long fable in that one turst me it’s better to contemplate than hear) is like Pirotause. The last two guys are a mage of undead creautes is who reminded me of Wagnard, where as the ice mage (a very spirited character who gets very exiguous veil time, and when he is there, it’s merely to eye qualified. but when he does act… icy) acts a lot like Ashram as well.

Reluctantly Darsh takes them all on (along the plot killing a vampire/mage who impartial seems to yowl out for a beating, trust me one notice and you’ll agree) and being nigh immortal, unleashes a dapper does of wound to his enemies.

A tickled ending, but I collect the feelign there was supposed to be another series, since the last battle is won, but there are a few lose ends left untended to.

If you liked Portray of Lodoss War or Fist of the North Star, you would probably esteem this series. My only lawful complaint is that this series wasn’t longer. Since some stuff seems to be rushed through.

Our 18 month stale daughter, who would happily survey Elmo talk for two hours about income tax returns, thinks this video is honest tall! It has music, kids, Elmo, food, Elmo . . . in short, she stares at the TV during the entire thing, with the awed silence of the accurate Elmophile. However, I obtain it a petite expressionless. This is definitely one of those “Okay, Mommy’s going into the other room now . . .” tapes. So unprejudiced for all you parents out there who care how YOU’LL like the video, here’s my two cents.

For one thing, cooking is a subject that not all kids are going to recall to. I hiss the plan late the tape is that kids should learn that they CAN cook (with aid) . The treats Elmo and his friends prepare include kid favorites like pizza and ice cream. But some kids probably fair want to eat these things, and couldn’t care less about how to obtain them. They might salvage the tape a dinky slow.

Also, the kids on this tape are fair adorable, but a small older than the usual Sesame Street crowd (I’m guessing they’re about 7 or . Obviously, they needed kids who were superb of doing the cooking-related tasks on the video, which leads me to contain that three or four year olds might not be able to “cook” as well as Elmo and his friends do here. But slightly older kids who wish they were Emeril and haven’t outgrown Sesame Street are a perfect audience!

The musical numbers here are a bit grating, but not as awful as all that. If you can acquire over the annoying utter of the Genie character who helps our friends in the kitchen, and ignore the unfunny food puns, you’ll pick up to sight Emeril give a brief lesson in pizza-making. To me, it looks like he’d rather be somewhere else, but maybe this is his usual expression. The kids do pick up to “bam” toppings on the pizza, by the draw.

The highlight of the video comes toward the very raze, when the “Pocket Queen” (who writes this stuff? ) teaches Elmo about pocket-shaped food. Her song about taking a chance and giving modern things a try is astronomical! Very resplendent duet with Elmo, and a nice message to boot. I can forgive this tape its flaws for this astonishing two minutes.

I consider one of the greatest joys in life is seeing things through children’s minds. My older son loves watching Emeril cook and of course loves Elmo and my younger son loves Elmo as well. When this video came out, it was the perfect gift for both of them. This video has many songs that stick with the children because of it’s catchy words and beats. Elmo and his Sesame Street friends really develop cooking fun and appetizing. They bid about ingredients, different cooking phrases, cooking utensils, how to follow directions, different foods and how to work together. The video is definitely generous and demonstrates definite attitudes in the kitchen and with friends. My son breaks out the pots and pans and makes hold he is cooking and he tells me what ingredients and how great he is going to keep it. This proves to me that the video is educational, yet fun to survey at because he really enjoys himself. Cooking doesn’t have to be a chore. It can be a rewarding experience when your children actually understand what they are doing.

When movies first came out on video there were two legendary exploitation films I had to track down. One was “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and the other was “I Spit on Your Grave,” which is actually the more memorable film of the pair overall (although I do grant the highest station to the “hook” scene in TCM) . Director Meir Zarchi’s 1978 film has become rather unfavorable, since critics hated it, audiences were outraged, and the film was banned in Germany and Stout Britain. The fable, such as it is, finds Jennifer Hill (Camille Keaton, Buster’s grand-niece) out in the woods of Connecticut to work on a new when she crosses the path of some local boys who choose she should be the first sexual partner for their mentally-disabled friend. When he cannot complete the rape, his friends do it for him. Then they resolve that they are not done with Jennifer.

At shriek are not Jennifer’s specific acts of revenge, including the evil bathroom scene, but rather the series of brutal rapes that precede them. I do not want to meet anyone who is not afraid by these rape scenes and I mediate it is fairly definite that Zarchi intended to originate audiences poor. In retrospect you have to wonder about all those movies with rape scenes that do NOT upset the audience (the modern clear exception that proves the rule would be what happens in “Monster” upright before the first destroy) . But Zarchi certainly pours it on thick, absolutely assuring that things go beyond the tolerance level of anyone who watches this film. So the bottom line is that this film will upset you and it is therefore effective at doing exactly what it wants to do. I have always considered this an “X” rated movie although I would not believe it pornographic in the used sense. But it is a very disturbing film and I do not mediate I would want my kids to look it until after they graduate college (if ever) . Anyone renting this film for cheap thrills is in for a shock.

As I now understand it, this 1978 film was originally released as “Day of the Woman,” but that rather innocuous title was replaced by the well known “I Spit on Your Grave,” although the film was also screened as “I Disapprove Your Guts” and “The Rape and Revenge of Jennifer Hill.” All of this is gripping since it seems the producers were trying to pass off this film with both higher and lover levels of pretention. The cult station here is more for the shock value than any cheap artistic pretentions, that is for clear.

To reiterate my previous reviews, packaging is as always in pleasant produce. The First Volume now has a snug four DVD cases inside of it on top of the music CDs and other memorabilia that could be stuffed without breaking it, which is a suited thin when one must sink in about twice the standard edition label.

It was a bit of a surprise that the bonus item was another pillow case, though the sleepover theme was more appropriate than the third volume (Yuki looks in particular divine) . Of the four bonus items, the first, brigade leader armband, is the approved. Grand practicality and easily compliments the school uniform should anyone want to cosplay as Haruhi.

Now on to the DVDs. I rather liked the English version of “God Knows,” and a thumbs up to Wendee Lee for singing both. “Live Alive” is the crutch episode of the three. Being also the first to inspect, how the song goes place the mood for watching the following two. And to that, “The Day of Sagittarius” is a accepted for reviewing again and again. Ah, that Yuki. Finally, “Someday in the Rain,” probably the most tiring, episode of the bunch. What was the reasoning for this ending? I can’t scream (Really, I can’t. Go read the novels if you can) .

Subtitles for the most portion is “fine.” Always with the yellow! Also something to mark which I did not add in the other reviews, there are occasional text that contain notable meaning for the viewer to glean. Sometimes it’s not translated into English for risk of cluttering up the shroud, and that is understandable. A bonus feature that could be very handy would like those translator notes found in some manga when a cultural disconnect requires explanation to the audience.

Who’s up for a second season?

This has to be one of the show’s release for this year, with the apt mix of Humour and special interest all in one, With the diagram is was indicate in japan, and then release in USA it all makes more sense. The massive ammount of extra’s and the Extra DVD with Jap only with sub for modern TV release.

I found this wonderfully intelligent. Obvious, the series doesn’t follow the game exactly, but this was level-headed fun and scrumptious. If you ever wanted to flee through fair some Status from the game, this should suit the bill honest aesthetic. Same style of humor, same fun deamons.

A very nice repackaging of the Flint movies, well worth purchasing by diehard fans. All the principles of the films are now unfortunately tedious (including the behind big James Coburn, who would’ve added immeasurably to any commentary tracks), but the commentary tracks included are definitely the highlight of this novel edition. Two uber movie geeks (sorry, can’t remember their names) bring tons of charm, enthusiasm & wit to the commentaries which are chockablock with endless fun spy-movie/TV trivia. (They, along with the rest of us Flint fans, voice long & hard about the fact that Coburn chose not to continue the series after a mere 2 films—hell, he could’ve at least made it a trilogy.) Additional features on a 3rd disc are delicate lame (including the SUPREMELY lame 1977 made-for-TV movie—a Flint flick in name only with virtually no connection to the Coburn films) . Again, the commentaries are what construct this collection worthwhile. Highly recommended!!

What’s with these reviews that are simply parroting the DVD contents and Amazon’s occupy description? Nothing like trying to stuff your review numbers with garbage in an attempt to develop the top 1000, 500 or whatever. Build it a proper review or shut up!

That said, if you have not seen the Flint movies, do so! Envisioned as a competitor to the James Bond franchise, the Flint movies follow the adventures of secret-agent, super-playboy, section mad-scientist Derek Flint. Played by James Coburn (one of the last people to be personally trained by Bruce Lee), the movies are fragment tongue-in-cheek with plenty of action. Yes, the special effects are dated, but the plots are calm beautiful darn favorable. May people mediate the movies to be a simple spoof on James Bond, kinda like the Dean Martin Matt Helm movies. The Austin Power’s telephone ring - taken lawful off the Flint movies. It’s the telephone ring on the Presidential Hotline to Lloyd Cramden’s. The soundtracks from both movies were recently released - by celebrated expect. Not unpleasant for 30 year faded movies!

In Like Flint: The last film that 20th Century Fox filmed in CinemeScope, this sets Flint against some of the world’s wealthiest women, crooked on world domination. How? By brainwashing them with hair-dryers at the Astonishing Face salon, located on a private island…..

OK, so the plots are similar, but advance on. Flint making “bloooba, bloooba” sounds - communicating with dolphins. Intriguing around in status via his sonic belt buckle. Nailing a waft with his cigarette blow-gun. The gymnastic fight scene. The weightless battle in status. All priceless moments. Stare these two movies and you’ll be thinking “so that’s where (insert movie name here) got the understanding!”

It has been years since I’ve seen The Residence, and the moment I saw the commercial for it on TV, I immediately ordered it. It’s a spacious DVD station with some really worthwhile bonus features, particularly the cast commentaries.

That being said, yes, the music replacement is quite noticeable, as is the frequent and sometimes scene devastating blurring of any and all images that might require MTV to pay something for their reveal. The insert that comes with the DVD position claims that to include these images and songs would have cost millions and forbade the production of the DVD. I accept that hard to occupy.

How grand is it going to cost to have a portray of Andrew Shue on a goofy homemade collage? Or some obscure album conceal from 15 years ago? I can’t imagine those would cost all that distinguished. And how remarkable can the inclusion of a handful of songs cost? Even unbiased for those few that were played over the live performances in studio, which is where the dubbing is most noticeable (any skit performed in the studio that contains licensed music, does not have a single part of unusual sound, whatsoever. It’s all dubbed over with unusual music, generic audience laughter, and re-recorded performances by the unique cast members) . Exquisite powerful every licensed song weak in the exhibit is background music with dialogue recorded over it. How, in that kind of context, is some Marvin Gaye song from 30 years ago or goofy grunge song from 1993 is going to cost “millions” to license? And how did songs such as “The Power” by Snap!, which is played over the guidance counselor sketch, earn it in and all these others didn’t?

I’m obvious the steady explanation is that MTV didn’t give this DVD production any kind of budget at all, which is why we derive all these alterations. I guess we should be thankful that the cast members and producers were so dedicated to the exhibit that they took the time to accumulate ways to bag around all these inconveniences forced upon them by their stingy bosses.

It’s titanic to peek the expose again and so many of my popular skits, particularly from the first season. It’s fair a shame so many large parts are ruined by all the editing and audio dubbing. I assume it’s 4-star rating entirely MTV’s fault for being so cheap with one of its greatest shows.
