Customer Reviews:

Love the X910BT, but it has a few quirks…..4
Bought the X910BT for my car, we enjoy traveling the back roads of Arizona and the southwest. Having the Nav system installed in the car makes things very easy - no hassle connecting the various devices, cables running all over, taking it down and putting it back up when making stops, and little “suction circles” on the windshield that thieves look for. Now I only have to fuss with the radar detector. Startup time on the unit is really not a problem, my Garmin would often take several minutes to startup, the AVIC is typically ready to go in about 1 minute. The bluetooth connection takes a little longer and the unit is very sluggish until the bluetooth connects. After the bluetooth is connected, the X910BT is very responsive.

It’s a very easy unit to operate after you get used to it. My previous GPS was a Garmin unit, and I really got spoiled by their features. A few things I can complain about with the X910BT:
- Voice recognition on bluetooth - just doesn’t seem to understand what I’m saying, either by name or number. I usually end up selecting the contact off the screen instead of telling it who to call. After the call has started, it works great, incoming sound is loud and clear. One person told me I sounded kind of muffled on their end, but they did not have any problem understanding me.
- Route planning is a bit of a pain if you’re like me and like to take the back roads. When we travel, we like to stay off the interstate as much as possible. Disabling the Highway option makes for some very long trips as it will try to route you way out of the way to avoid highways. The AVICFeeds software is ok and I have used it to generate POIs for route planning, but it is tedious and not as easy to use as Garmin’s MapSource. AVICFeeds also has a 300 item limit on POIs it can import, which means getting creative if your have a file with a large number of locations, such as those found on POI-Factory.com.
- The volume knob is really small and hard to grasp. I picked up a press on knob from a guy on AVIC411.com and it works great, easy to grasp and works the way it should have from the factory.
- The maps are very limited in the speed limit data they have. One a recent trip Southern California, we were being tailed by a CHP on one of the backroads. We were doing a reasonable speed, but the AVIC did not have any speed information for the road we were on. Additionally, many of the major surface streets in the Phoenix metro area also do not have any speed limit info available. It was very rare for the Garmin to not have speed limit data available.

I have the Sirius option installed, it works great and I listen to it more often than FM or my SD Card. I used the factory installed Sirius antenna lead to connect to the X910BT with no problem. I was able to transfer my new car subscription over and they even waived the $15 transfer fee. I also found a nice flat spot under the dash to put the GPS antenna where it is hidden and out of sight. I do not have any extra objects laying on my dash or on my roof as giveaways to what I have in my car. I ran the microphone up inside the front pillar, under the roof liner and used velcro strips to attach it to the rear view mirror. It’s almost completely out of sight unless you know what to look for.

I really like he X910BT and would not go back to the portable Garmin GPS, though we still have it for use in our other vehicles and when we are hanging around planning a trip. It’s great having the GPS built-in, many times we are out running around and decide to go someplace, we can enter whatever we want to find right in the GPS and it tells us where it’s at.

So much potential, so many features, but tainted by bugs4
Pioneer re-named a slightly modified AVIC-F900BT to the AVIC-X910BT, check reviews on that unit, as well as the AVIC-F90BT and AVIC-F700BT to see the common complaints.
Hardware changes are a new DVD drive, a new Apple chip to support new Apple devices and a minor update to the faceplate.
The software changes (which are available, for a fee, from Pioneer for existing F-series customers as a 3.0 update) include:
o An update of the WindowsCE operating system that runs underneath the user interface, which is responsible for the increase in responsiveness of the unit over the F-Series running on version 2.0.
o Updated navigation software from iGo 8.0 to iGo 8.3, this gives all the new map features advertised, like heading-up in 2D map mode and traffic signs.
o It now responds properly to steering wheel inputs with a remote adapter by going through presets instead of incrementing the tuner.
o A little more detail on this behavior - you can set buttons to preset up/down, but these buttons will not do preset up/down AND skip tracks, which is the behavior of almost every stock radio’s steering wheel buttons. I continue to have my steering wheel up/down set to the skip track, since I use that more often. I really wish it would skip tracks in CD/iPod mode and change presets in Radio Mode.
o Updated maps.

The unit itself promises a lot, and in most ways, it does. Spec-for-spec, there’s no unit (apart from Pioneer’s own Z110BT) that comes close at *any* price. The closest competition is the Kenwood DNX9140, however, while the X910BT allows voice commands, such as “Play the artist The Hanslick Rebellion” or “Play the album Physics”, the Kenwood DNX9140 responds it requires you to be looking at the screen and giving commands like “Line 4″, “Next Page”, which it responds to quickly, but is merely using your voice to duplicating pressing the screen with your fingers.

The AVIC-X910BT delivers on most all its promises, but the main gripes from the previous series still exist, which are well-covered in reviews of the F900BT, F700BT and F90BT. You *must* read those before making a decision to purchase this unit. For the price, this is an impressive unit, but it has quirks that not all are willing to live with. Keep the receipt in case you’re one of them.

Some issues but nice overall4
I will not go into all details on this unit. This is my first GPS receiver and so far the Navigation has worked great. The only issue I have had with it is sometimes after system startup is complete it takes a minute or so before the option of using “around current GPS location” is selectable.

iPhone/iPod voice control works nice when using play artist, play album, etc. The unit fails using Call “name” to dial. I have yet to get the system to recognize a name that is in my phone book. I end up either having to use the contacts screen to select or use the voice command “call 555-555-5555″, which it gets right every time but I do not know all the numbers for my contacts so that is not the best alternative.

iPhone/iPod movies that I have paid for and downloaded from itunes do not play back well. They take forever to load and once they do the placeholders for the movie information remain on the screen the entire movie but do not even display any information. During playback you get some weird artifacts as well for example a line through the image at random points during playback. iTunes music videos however load fine.

One feature listed in the book is the display of incoming Short Mail (SMS). I have yet to have incoming SMS notifications display on this unit.

The X910BT has a nice appearance but having a glossy finish on a touch unit means very visible finger prints. A matte finish would have been better. The volume knob is not raised enough for comfortable operation unless you have the hands of a 7 year old.

Overall a nice system but it does have issues. Things I would expect to work on a unit at this price.

Sadly, I must say that I’m probably considered an stale guy to most of the reviewers of this “Degrassi: The Next Generation” boxed area. At twenty-eight years of age, I’m probably twice as dilapidated as most of these folks. But that doesn’t matter because I really fancy this boxed station. I grew up watching the unique Degrassi shows on PBS in Louisiana. Though the cast was roughly two years older than I was, I found myself relating to a lot of them. The original series allows me to procure up with some of my worn favorites, as well as introduces me to a recent gash of kids going through that grand life-changing period we know as junior high and high school.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Degrassi The Next Generation - Season 1! Click Here

This fresh DVD region brings us the first season of the novel series. Many of the kids are level-headed pre-teens in this season. We are introduced to Emma, J.T., Toby, Manny, Ashley, Paige, etc. We’re also introduced to some of their parents. One of the parents is very familiar to us faded folks. Emma’s mom is Ms. Nelson, or Spike, from the recent reveal. She’ll become quite terminate with Emma’s media immersion teacher, Mr. Simpson. Once again, the frail folks will probably, gawk Mr. Simpson as Snake from the customary expose. Another returning celebrated is Joey Jeremiah. You’ll remember him as the goofy kid that wore a fedorah. Many of the older castmembers explain up for a class reunion at the raze of episode two.

The unique cast is fun to recognize. It’s comic how kids these days unruffled deal with many of the same problems that other teenagers deal with. Everything from sex to drug abuse to first loves is dealt with. There are a few unusual trials and tribulations these days, however. One such temptation is internet romance, which gets Emma into a sticky dwelling. Another subject dealt with is Ashley having to arrive to terms with the fact that her father is jubilant. Though homosexuals have been around forever, I deem that this is the first teen demonstrate that deals with this particular region. Spinner is on behavior-controlling prescription drugs(ritelin, forgive the spelling) . Jimmy uses those particular drugs to give him an “edge” at basketball. J.T. and Toby check out a runt internet porn and, as usual, those blasted parents procure them. These are unbiased a few of the “newer” problems that are addressed on the prove.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Degrassi The Next Generation - Season 1! Click Here

Some of the problems that have hampered teens since the dawn of time are addressed as well. Toby crushes big-time over Emma, who is captivated by Sean. Sean, meanwhile, comes from a busted, alcoholic family. Paige manipulates her friends to earn what she wants. Terry is overweight and thinks that no one will ever like her. Liberty fears failure in the classroom, etc., etc. What you regain is a teenage soap-opera that deals with loyal issues.

Granted, some of the “problems” are hokey and 100% cheese, but this helps shatter the intensity of some of the dramatic moments. The acting isn’t obedient, but it wasn’t with the current explain, either. What you slay up with is a program that teens and pre-teens can notice without feeling like they are being preached to or lectured. The characters are believable and they deal with their problems in the same plot as any average kid would these days.

The DVD extras are fun. There is karaoke, where you accept to roar the theme song. There’s a casting call fragment where you earn to sight some of the youngsters try out for roles. A blooper reel is included, and some deleted scenes as well. One of the best deleted scenes for us oldsters is one which catches us up on a lot of the veteran characters from the current shows.

I recommend this boxed area to anyone who wants to relive the customary days of their youth. More importantly, I recommend this state to teachers and parents who want to grunt their kids without having to hammer a speech down their throats. Kids connect with the characters on this present, and that makes life a small bit easier to deal with once they realize that they aren’t the “only one” who has to deal with any of their particular teenage problems.

Being an adult in my twenties - I sadly admit to giving into watching Degrassi reruns on “The N” during the wee-hours of the morning. However, I am ever impressed with the range and frankness with which they address teen issues. Their problems have grown with their ages. The characters have not remained static. They have grown the map steady kids grow between 13-17, with their problems accrurately affecting their ages.

Definite, some of it is hokey. After all, it is a 22 shrimp indicate. There’s a lot to cram in there. However, I consider every kid should be watching this display. I’ve seen nothing like it produced in the US. I give the note grand credit for addressing a teen struggling with his sexuality, even showing a kiss between two glad teens. I give them vast credit for addressing rape, a violent relationship, one character cheating on another and the effects of that, alcohol and drug experimentation. In short, distinct, it smacks of after-school special, and it may not race exactly legal to life, but it is Exact issues that kids deal with, and I commend the expose for its honesty in addressing them.

This is a riveting movie that takes us to places, figuratively and literally, that form us jubilant to be benefit home again, suited and sane.

It takes us into the mind, gradual the piercing blue eyes, of a serial killer. Malcom McDowell delivers one of his best performances ever as Evilenko, a man who killed and ate numerous children and young women. The intellectual acting raises this movie far above the novel spate of serial killer accounts though. It has fresh intensity. McDowell convinces us of his character, a man wrapped in rabid loyalty to the Communist Party in the decade unprejudiced before the Party’s plunge. From his gravelly scream, to the colossal Russian hold hug he extends to his victims - McDowell concentrates fresh kinds of tyranny and menace into his portrayal.

The movie also takes us onto the scene of Communist Russia’s last years. Filmed in the Ukraine, it shows both the milder side of life under the Communist regime (children playing along tree-lined pathways) and the grim side (interrogation rooms with stained walls and the relentless sound of water dripping somewhere in the background) .

Buy,Download, Or Stream Evilenko 2 disc deluxe edition! Click Here

I don’t now why this movie got so miniature publicity. It deserves to be considered as one of the top movies of the year. And McDowell deserves top awards for leading us down those tree-lined paths - into a nightmare.

Serial killers are probably the most monstrously spellbinding individuals on the face of the Earth, in piece because we collected know so petite about these rarest of men (they are almost always men, after all) . While many a film has been made on the subject, few manage to offer a compelling explore at the minds slow these horrific crimes, choosing instead to concentrate on the blood and gore of the killing acts. Evilenko doesn’t cater to prurient interests, concentrating instead on the mind of a deranged killer and the authorities’ sure search to pick up him and bring him to justice. Adapted from the unusual The Communist Who Ate Children by Italian journalist David Grieco, the record was inspired by the real-life serial killing spree of Andrei Chikatilo, the Rostov Ripper, who killed 52 Russian women, boys, and girls between 1978 and 1990, sexually molesting many of them and reportedly indulging in some degree of cannibalism. Technically speaking, therefore, Evilenko does not attempt to explain Chikatilo’s sage as it actually happened.

With such a though-provoking subject and acclaimed actor Malcolm McDowell taking on the role of the sadistic Evilenko, it’s a pity this film has garnered such miniature publicity. Yes, it’s an Italian film, but it deserves both considerable and current success here in America. McDowell is mesmerizing as the psychological time bomb that turns to killing rather slack in life. Despite Evilenko’s sinful, McDowell makes him approachable, thereby drawing you into his fresh window on the world. What lies slack his rage? That is really what the movie is about. It also explains why we never actually eye the victims; showing us the viscerally evil results of his handiwork would have robbed him of his humanity and prevented us from even trying to understand him.

The film’s most disturbing scene actually takes set within the first few minutes, when Evilenko tries to molest one of his young female students. That incident costs him his teaching job and adds a well-kept accelerant to the fire already burning within his heart. Evilenko is, at his very being, a devoted Communist. As such, his very self-image is being increasingly diminished by the mid-1980s reforms of Gorbachev and the clearly imminent death throes of Soviet Communism. This, we are led to fill, in conjunction with Evilenko’s hatred for the anti-Communist father he never knew and distinct sexual issues, is the driving force unhurried his killing spree. His victims are all young, ranging from microscopic children to young ladies, and include both boys and girls. While we are aware of the mounting numbers, the dependable murders are almost of secondary importance as we gain our focus on the mind of Evilenko. The killing spree baffles investigators, with bodies turning up in various locations and no witnesses coming forward with anything resembling a lead. The public, of course, are not even informed of the pain because of the Communist government’s reluctance to admit that a comrade could dare do such things.

Detective Vadim Timurovic Lesiev (Marton Csokas) is given charge of the investigation and pursues the unknown killer relentlessly. He even goes so far as to enlist the serve of a psychoanalyst (a ecstatic Jewish doctor initially counted among the scores of men investigated as suspects) in coming up with a profile of the killer. Dr. Richter (Ronald Pickup) himself becomes a most though-provoking character. He does succeed in aiding the investigation - but only in the most unexpected of ways. In the kill, though, it really comes down to a contest of wills between Evilenko and Lesiev, culminating in the most bizarre interrogation scene imaginable. Lesiev will halt at nothing to bring the killer to justice.

The film does leave a number of unanswered questions. While we are given compelling reasons for Evilenko’s crimes, we are not treated to a complete psychological evaluation of the man. We learn almost nothing about his childhood or young adult years, for example. His kind of sickness would have definitely revealed itself in different ways during his formative years. There’s also the matter of his wife, a dour woman who must have become aware of her husband’s “hobby” at some point before the murders ended. The film also introduces the opinion that Evilenko possesses some kind of hypnotic power over his victims as well as potential witnesses. I can hold one soldier going aroused after witnessing Evilenko cannibalizing a victim, but it’s really problematic when another soldier has no memory of his face-to-face encounter with the man. The investigation into the crime itself becomes problematic when Lesiev’s boss tragically discounts human life by insisting that Lesiev do his proceed on the suspect only after he kills his next victim, wanting to capture all doubts as to whether or not Evilenko is guilty.

If you’re looking for blood and gore, this isn’t your movie. This is a psychological thriller, not a fear movie. Some will quiet be repulsed by the very nature of the sage itself, but the sunless fact is that men like Evilenko do exist in the world, deranged individuals whose powerlessness in society leads them to dominate the most vulnerable of human beings in the sickest of ways. This film is particularly lively and principal because it examines a sociopolitical influence on the serial killer’s actions. Evilenko represents Soviet Communism itself, with his personal collapse mirroring that of the residence. That, McDowell’s wonderful performance, and so many other aspects of the film I don’t have time or spot to talk about, create Evilenko one of the most impressive and compelling serial killer-based movies I have ever seen.

Great Printer - BAD BAD Driver3
I purchased this printer instead of the 2840 due to bad driver reviews associated with the 2840. Unfortunately, the drivers for this device are bad too. Beginning with the minimum install size of 400 MB. Yes, the driver automatically installs all sorts of maintenance and other applications. No, you cannot deselect them during or after the install. The drivers also add 32 seconds to boot time for every PC I installed them on.

The upsides are that the color prints coming out of this machine are amazing. The color copy feature is awesome too. The device draws only 7.5 watts in sleep mode and it is very quiet (no loud fans running during sleep mode).

Overall printing 5 stars and driver 1 star, so I rated it in the middle. One more thing. Just FYI, I found the HP Color Laserjet 5M driver works for this printer and does not add 32 seconds or 400 MB to my PC operation. I am sure there are some features missing, but…

The Best All in One HP LaserJet Printer Yet!!!5
This is an awesome printer! For so many reasons.

1.) It’s an all in one or better yet, a 4 in one (print, copy, scan, fax). Many of the newer printers haven’t included fax recently.

2.) It’s compact - shorter than the HP 2840 which is a huge monstrosity. The toner cartridges are secured horizontally (front to back) rather than vertically (top to bottom). This saves a lot of room.

3.) It’s simple and the most user friendly printer I’ve ever purchased from HP. It’s Vista operative and the software that comes with it is more of a help than a hindrance. The organization of the buttons and functions on the front panel makes sense. The color LCD screen is also easy to navigate. You won’t feel like every navigating decision will be binding like some display screens. HP combined modern technology, simplicity, and the traditional needs of an all in one to arrive at their best printer yet.

4.) It’s affordable too in comparison to the HP 2840 all in one. The toner is also less expensive than the Q6000 series of toner that is needed in the 2840 and other related LaserJet printers.

I highly recommend this printer if you have a small/home based business! Or if you just like having it all… all in one.

Not bad but could be MUCH better2
They missed some of the basics on this machine. There is no manual feed operation, only one paper tray. Must remove all existing paper and realign paper tray guides to print a single envelope or any other size or type of paper. This funchtion misfeeds quite often. Takes some time to set up properly. Fax has no alternate answering machine but you can plug in an external answering machine. Print quality is good but very expensive to use. Costs about $1.25 per page in toner alone. Reliability is still undetermined. Our last three HP all-in-one laserjets failed within 3 months of new purchase. Not bad if you have another mono laser printer for regular use. Driver issues still unresolved. Noticed that many of the reveiws on this machine have been removed since I checked before purchase.

Ian McKellen’s “Richard III” is a sparkling 20th Century adaptation of the Shakespeare new. McKellen sets the murderous intrigue and civil strife of the play in an imaginary fascist period of English History. In doing this, he removes the legend from its historical context and demonstrates the timeless nature of its themes. The unusual narrative was situation during the War of the Roses, a bitter succession conflict which took area in pre-Tudor England. None of the medieval butchery is lost on us when we search for it select state in a fascist context.

The central theme of Richard III is not ambition or ruthlessness but the power of momentum. Richard relies on both physical and rhetorical momentum for his success. Physically, he must always be on the recede. Once his movement is stopped he is doomed. Richard makes this abundantly determined in the play and in the film when his transportation is destroyed at the Battle of Bosworth field and he can no longer proceed. Richard says “a horse a horse,my kingdom for a horse” meaning that without movement he loses the battle and with it his life and his kingdom. This signature death speech is even a bit ironic in the film since it is Richard’s jeep that is shot out from him which means that he is speaking metaphorically when he refers to it as a horse. What could be more fitting for a fascist leader?

Momentum is also crucial to Richard’s rhetoric. On two occasions in the play, Richard must convince a woman whose husband he has murdered to marry him. Richard accomplishes this the first time by matching each of the widow’s arguments with a witty answer until she has none left. But Richard is later unable to do this with the second widow. He begins his confident stream of witty retorts but is flustered by and then outdone by her. Rhetorically he has lost his momentum and with it his power to dominate and control.

Momentum is as crucial to unique despots as it was to the tyrants of Shakespeare’s time. Hitler mesmerized a generation of Germans with speeches whose allege made minute sense but whose momentum carried the day. And like Richard III, Hitler was only successful as long as his army could maintain on the disappear. I wonder if any Panzer driver stuck in the mud and snow of Stalingrad in 1942 found himself muttering “a horse a horse, my kindom for a horse”?

A gala ball: The York family celebrate their reascent to power; the War of Roses (named for the feuding houses’ heraldic badges: Lancaster’s red and York’s white rose) is almost over. Actually, the year is 1471, but for explain purposes, we’re in the 1930s. A singer delivers a swinging “Arrive live with me and be my esteem.” Richard of Gloucester (Sir Ian McKellen), the reinstated sickly King Edward IV’s (John Wood’s) youngest brother, moves through the crowd; observing, watching his second brother George, Duke of Clarence (Nigel Hawthorne) being quietly led off by Tower warden Brackenbury (Donald Sumpter) and his subalterns. With Clarence gone, Richard seizes the microphone, its discordant drawl cutting through the singer’s applause, and he, who himself made this night possible by killing King Henry VI of Lancaster and his son at Tewkesbury, begins a victory speech: “Now is the winter of our discontent made sparkling summer by this sun of York” (lop to Edward, who regally acknowledges the tribute) . But when Richard mentions “grim-visaged war,” who “smooth’d his wrinkled front,” the camera closes in on his mouth, turning it into a grimace reminiscent of the story known to any spectator in Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre: that he wasn’t honest born “with his feet first” but also “with teeth in his mouth;” hence, not only crippled (though whether also hunchbacked is unsafe) but cursed from birth, his physical deformity merely outwardly representing his inner imperfect.

Then, mid-sentence, the image cuts again. Richard enters a bathroom; and as he continues his monologue we gawk that only now, relieving himself and talking - with narcissistic pleasure - to his acquire image in the mirror, he truly speaks his mind; contemptuously dismissing a war that’s lost its menace and “capers nimbly in a lady’s bedchamber,” and determining that, since he now has no delight but to mock his absorb deformed shadow, and “cannot demonstrate a lover,” he’ll “demonstrate a villain and abominate the inactive pleasures of these days.”

Thus, Richard’s first soliloquy, which actually opens the play on a London street, brilliantly demonstrates the signature elements of this movie’s (and the preceding stage production’s) success: not only its updated 20th century context but its creative exhaust of settings and imagery; boldly cutting and rearranging Shakespeare’s words without anytime, however, betraying his intent. Indeed, that pattern is already area with the prologue’s abolish of King Henry VI and his son, where following a telegraph characterize that “Richard of Gloucester is at hand - he holds his course toward Tewkesbury” (slightly altered lines from the preceding “King Henry VI”’s last scenes) Richard himself emerges from a tank breaking through the royal headquarters’ wall, breathing heavily through a gas mask: As his shots ring out, riddling the prince with bullets, the blood-red letters R-I-C-H-A-R-D-III appear across the cloak.

And as creatively it continues: Richard woos Lady Anne (Kristin Scott Thomas), Henry’s daughter-in-law, in a morgue instead of a street (arrive her husband’s casket), and later drives her into drug abuse. Henry’s Cassandra-like widow Margaret is one of several characters omitted entirely; whereas foreign-born Queen Elizabeth is purposely cast with an American (Annette Benning), whose performance has equally purposeful overtones of Wallis Simpson; and whose playboy-brother Earl Rivers (Robert Downey Jr.) dies “in the act.” Clarence is murdered while the rest of the family sits down to a lavish (although discordant) dinner. When upon Richard’s ally Lord Buckingham’s (Jim Broadbent’s) machinations, he is “persuaded” to choose the crown, he emerges from a veritable film star’s dressing room complete with full-sized mirror and manicurists (sold to the attending crowd outside as “two deep divines” praying with him) . Tyrrell (Adrian Dunbar), already one of Clarence’s murderers, hastily rises through uniformed ranks as he further bloodies his hands. Richard’s and Elizabeth’s final spar over her daughter’s hand takes set in the train-wagon serving as his field headquarters; and we actually view that same princess wed to his arch-enemy Richmond (Dominic West), King Henry VII-to-be and founder of the Tudor dynasty, with lines taken from Richmond’s closing monologue. Perhaps most importantly, we also watch Richard’s coronation, which Shakespeare himself - honoring that ceremony’s perception as holy - decided not to show; although even here it is presented not as a shapely way of status but only in a brief snippet rerun immediately from the distance of a private, black-and-white film shown only for Richard’s and his entourage’s aid.

And keen as this project is, its stellar cast - also including Maggie Smith (a formidable Duchess of York), Jim Carter (Prime Minister Lord Hastings), Roger Hammond (the Archbishop), and Tim McInnerny and Bill Paterson (Richard’s underlings Catesby and Ratcliffe) - uniformly explain themselves more than up to the task.

Even if the temporal setting didn’t already spell out the allegory on the universality of atrocious that McKellen and director Richard Loncraine obviously intend, you’d have to be blind to miss the visual references to fascism: the uniforms, the gathering modeled on the unpleasant Nuremberg Reichsparteitag, the long red banners with a sunless boar in a white circle (playing up the image of the boar Shakespeare himself uses: similarly, Richard’s and Tyrrell’s first meeting is station in a pig-sty, and Lord Stanley’s [Edward Hardwicke’s] prophetic dream follows an incident where Richard, for a split-second, loses his self-control) . But the imagery goes even further: Richard’s narcissism is reminiscent of Chaplin’s “Colossal Dictator;” and you don’t have to peruse this movie contemporaneously with the latest “Star Wars” installment to visualize Darth Vader during his gas mask-endowed entry in the first scene.

“[T]hus I clothe my naked villany with irregular ancient ends stol’n out of holy writ; and seem a saint when most I play the devil,” Richard comments in the play: if there’s one line I regret to seek chop it’s the one so clearly encompassing the intention many a recent despot assumes power, too; by cloaking his factual intent in the veneer of formal legality. Even so: this is a highlight among the unique Shakespeare adaptations; under no circumstances to be missed.
