This documentary, section of National Geographic’s broad ‘In the Womb’ series, takes us into the wombs of three different animals. Using current 4-D ultrasound imaging, we’re able to behold a record of life in the womb like never before. All of the embryonic/fetal animals are very different, yet they’re all mammals, and all have a number of similarities in addition to their differences. Following a Golden Retriever, a dolphin, and an elephant, we derive out about such subjects as the mating techniques (none of them are exactly the same, which would probably surprise most people), how long the gestational period lasts (the Golden Retriever has the shortest pregnancy by far, and is the only animal mother having a litter instead of impartial one baby), primary milestones happening along the prenatal scramble, when each fetal animal does things like opening the eyes, growing hair, showing characteristics of a male or female, and getting more lung power, what happens during the delivery, and what their lives are like shortly after birth. It really makes one marvel at what a miracle the accelerate from concept to birth is, and makes prenatal development seem moving and fun instead of listless and for the scientific-minded only. One can only hope that perhaps one day there will be other installments in this series, bringing us the prenatal scoot of some other mammals, such as rabbits, bears, cats, horses, and goats.

This DVD is absolutely improbable! My daughter is 7 years weak. We have had some discussions about sex, but I decided I wanted her to have a better belief of how things work. With this DVD being about animals, it’s a shrimp less intimidating for me and a small less wretched for her. They do prove mating, but it is a very runt piece of the material presented. My daughter was amazed to see the baby animals accomplish and loved hearing how little they were, etc. It also amazed her how so many of us (humans being animals too) commence out exactly the same procedure. This is a very useful educational tool, but it’s also tremendous for anyone who simply has an interest in the pregnancy process, animal or otherwise.

The only portrait I ever saw of Jane Austen appears on countless spines of the Modern Library edition of “Pride and Prejudice.” Drawn by her sister Cassandra, Jane looks, well, like one would expect the witty Miss Austen to look: poised, civilized, reflective and intelligent. With some imagination and forgiveness with regard to the talent of the artist, she could even be conceived as pretty with her large dark eyes and ringlet fringe peeking out from the typical gentlewoman’s cap of that time period. How ingenious for Hollywood to cast the sumptuous Anne Hathaway with her silky brown hair, curvaceous figure, deer-in-the-headlights eyes and perfect lips as the young burgeoning author? Let’s face it—no one wants to be a plain Jane - and plain she is not–she’s pretty much got it all: not only is she innocently stunning, she’s independent, wants to work, exhibits impeccable manners, loves her family, acts upon noble ideals all of which along with her cricket skills results in attracting and snaring the deliciously boyish James McAvoy ( Last King of Scotland) as supposed ill-fated lover, Tom Lefroy.

As a film, all of this romanticism works wonderfully. The verdant countryside shimmers in the sunshine. The period clothing—all empire waists, beribboned hair, top hats and velvet frockcoats—-sway and rustle delightfully as the couples dance and speak in clever well-mannered innuendo as expectant matchmaking parents play chaperone and contemplate lucrative alliances that will set their children up for life. The dialogue sufficiently reflects that Austenian repartee which the educated audience delights in as it makes them feel they are on an even keel with one of the greatest satirists in the English language. The notion of Austin’s relationship with Lefroy as presented first in Jon Spence’s biography from which the film gets its name, suggests that many of Austin’s dream partnerships as presented in her novels were based on actual, personal and emotional incidents that although painful, gave her characters so much flesh and blood poignancy, we still discuss them today.

Whether or not any of this is actually true matters naught. The film seduces with the same charming intensity of McAvoy’s blue-eyed stare as he quite openly undresses Hathaway in his mind. Is Lefroy the basis for Mr. Darcy? This is difficult to say, but I wouldn’t mind bumping into this film’s Tom Lefroy while I was taking my daily constitutional. Of course, I’d have to go back in time to become a few years younger—or perhaps not as flirty cousin Eliza de Feuillide certainly does have her way with Jane’s rakish brother, Henry Austen (Joe Anderson)—oh, what money can buy!

With that in mind, leave the historical authenticity to the Austen scholars and enjoy the film for its performances and its visual delights. Secondary players congregate to form a veritable Austen menagerie of characters that for the most part plays a bit too conveniently to reflect reality. But take it all in fun —the film leads one to believe that Austen needed little imagination to conceptualize her personalities; rather they were all there under her nose, just waiting to be captured on paper. Nevertheless, Maggie Smith as the formidable Lady Gresham never fails to elicit a chuckle as does her fictional counterpart Lady Catherine de Bourgh from “Pride and Prejudice.” Julie Walters and James Cromwell as Jane’s parents seem the perfect Mr. and Mrs Bennett clones while Laurence Fox, as Mr. Wisley (Mr. Collins again from “Pride and Prejudice”) interjects just the right 21st century computer geek persona to the mix to act the perfect foil for the more glamorous but definitely shallower Tom Lefroy character.

Bottom line: After countless Masterpiece Theatre adaptations of all six of Jane Austen’s novels as well as a herd of popular films set to popular music (Bride and Prejudice was one Bollywood version) it is not surprising that the author herself has come into scrutiny in this charming albeit fictionalized biopic. If you are not tired of yet another Darcy/Bennett rendition, you will most likely find “Becoming Jane” two hours worth of Jane Austen’s world lovingly preserved. Recommended.

The DVD for this movie will be coming out Feb 12, 2008 and will feature deleted scenes, commentary with director Julian Jarrold, writer Kevin Hood and producer Robert Bernstein, becoming Jane Pop-Up Facts & Footnotes(ok, this is enough to make me want to buy it)and a Discovering the Real Jane Austen featurette

The actors were wonderful in this movie and it was well staged. The movie is supposed to be based on a few months of Jane’s life when she was 20. H Some scenes were added to make her life more dramatic. There isn’t very many facts known about Jane so any biographical movie about her will contain fiction, but I think what most people criticized about this film is it borrows too much from Pride & Prejudice.

The facts about Jane are she was a witty and lively person. We know this from her letters and her writings. She was sort of a tomboy when she was young and played baseball and cricket. She had a handsome and adventurous brother named Henry who helped publish two of her novels after her death. He did marry their cousin. Tom Lefroy was a person she knew and she did flirt with him when she was 20. Many years later he said he did love Jane but it was a “boyish love”. His first daughter was named Jane. When she was 27 she was proposed to by a weathly but awkward man named Harry Bigg-Whithers, who she at first accepted but changed her mind the next day.

For people with children, there is some brief nudity (male backsides), some women that appear to be prostitutes, fist fighting and some suggestive language.

Other people have criticized this movie because they see it as another way to cash in on Jane Austen’s popularity. I feel that the film does try to shed a little light on her real personality.

I have watched this and all of the other movies in this extraordinary series. They are all very family oriented, have no profanity and violence kept to a minimum. My young grand children can view these movies as they present a view of family, faith and loyalty as few others do. The characters and acting is superb. I recommend this and others in the Love Comes Softly series to anyone desiring good, clean, healthy, viewer friendy entertainment. Thank you Hallmark for your continued excellence in presenting family movies.

There is no doubt that the Love Comes Softly movie series are very well done and wonderfully enjoyable. The only thing that bothers me is that there are so many discrepancies between the books and the movies. Important characters are cut, children that belong to Marty are attached to Missy, and other important areas of the story are left out. The movies as a whole or in part are excellent family entertainment, but anyone that has read and reread the books needs to be prepared for a totally different series which only resembles the original book series.

Nick to the 1980’s and Elizabeth Taylor who in many ways at the time was not so enormous a movie star as she had been but was noteworthy in examine on television. Slimmed down and revitalized after the 1970’s age of full she was in her final bloom of beauty and at the top of her talent. A woman playing a star who really understood more than anyone alive what being a star of mega wattage meant. She had lived it, survived it and was triumphing over it. She was the anti Alexandra Delago who nearly had become Alexandra Delago but somehow managed to swerve and avoid that porcupine in the road of fame and live to deny about it. She was perfect casting for this T.V. movie of the play. And she had an idea of Williams’ poetry having done, “Cat On A Hot Tin Roof”, “Suddenly Last Summer” and “Narrate”.

The supporting cast turns in some exquisite performances. In particular, Rip Torn, and Valerie Perrine shine in their roles. Trace Harman is impartial the factual age to play Chance Wayne a gigolo on the edge of losing his looks and too obsessed with the past to buy the one last opportunity Alexandra offers him to become what he thinks he wants to be, a star.

But it is Taylor’s movie all the plan. From her amazing early close-ups at the beach cabana to her final scene she commands the role as no other actress of her generation could. She inhabits the roll with a worldly concept that under the monster that Alexandra has become there is smooth a human being who can near out to back another even if it is too limited too unhurried. She also brings to the film a reality from her true life that no other actress, even the best way actresses around could muster. This adds a glittering and chilling edge to the performance. It is incandescent work in a lesser medium by a star and actress who was the master of blending fact and fiction as no one else quite can.

The Elizabeth Taylor/Mark Harmon version is grand grittier than the 1962 Paul Newman/Geraldine Page version; and in some ways not as well acted. The characters at times seem forced, but it is far from a poor version. It can peaceful grip you with the emotions of a washed up star and a grasping young wanna be star.

I’m not definite why Megan Blake and Seymour Cassel are listed as the stars on the sale listing when Elizabeth Taylor and Ticket Harmon are listed as the stars both on the box and in the movie itself, so if they are who you are looking for as the leads - they are there.

This DVD version was done in 1989, not the date of release.

It also has appearances by Rip Torn, who was also in the 1962 version as Boss Finley’s son, now in this version as Boss Finley. Valerie Perrine also makes an appearance. The 1962 version did not employ Tennessee Williams grand more violent ending which is only hinted at and left to your imagination in this 1989 version.

Elizabeth Taylor is always an titillating actress to seek, she steals the veil when she is reveal, which is no surprise. Brand Harmon affects a southern accent and does a credible job as Chance.

However as ether a warning or an inducement to hold whichever your wishes are; there is one bedroom scene with Chance and the esteem of his life Exquisite which is very revealing to say the least. This can be a surprise for a non rated DVD and one that was on television (this scene was probably not broadcast in the US or if it was, it was on a cable set.) . So unbiased realize this when you lift it.

If I were rating this movie solely on quality of the film, it would get one star. if i were rating it solely on how much i love to watch it even though it’s awful, it would get 5 stars. SO I averaged it and got 3.

The dialogue is horrendous, the effects cheesy, the music (not the soundtrack which is great, but the score) indescribably awful. It looks like a made for TV movie.

However- I can’t stop watching it. i saw it 3 times in the theater and pre-ordered my own copy. It entertains me. Plus, Edward is nice to look at… oh, James too. LOVE James.To me this movie is absolutely hysterical- where it doesn’t intend to be. The scene where Edward first sees Bella in class and he looks as if he may throw up on her??? Great! The look that Billy Black and Edward exchange as they pass each other in their cars? Priceless. I love the baseball scene! But the crouch down and prepare to fight stance they take at the end… Can anybody say Power Rangers? But just mentioning all this makes me want to watch it again. I know it makes no sense. It just has that power.

I should be embarrassed to like this, but I’m not. I will watch it over and over again proudly. I will recommend it to anyone I can. Watch it and love it. But know that it’s terrible and know that it can’t compare to the book and that all of it’s charm is due to it’s cheesiness.

I had heard about the fantasy books by a friend when they first came out but didn’t have the time to look into them. By the time the movie came out, I’d nearly forgotten about the book referral, but asked my hubby to take me as it looked like a good vampire romance flick. The scenery of the Pacific Northwest forests, rivers, and coastline was breathtaking and as a native to this area, it was like going out into my own backyard which made the film that more appealing. I was so captivated by the actors portrayal of the characters (the facial expressions and emotions brought out of the characters by Rob, Kristen, Peter, Nikki, and the rest were mesmerizing) and the depth of the back-story left me desiring more! The very next day after viewing the movie in the theater - I raced to the bookstore to grab the first book. I was hooked, read through all four books (plus went to the authors website to read the extra materials she had posted there) in a week. Then, still not satisfied, went back and saw the movie several more times - IN THE THEATER, something I’ve never felt compelled to do before - because I was so drawn to the characters and the story. This may have been written for the young adult audience but I’m 32 and a parent of four children, and still found the story to be well worth my time.

If you haven’t read the stories, I encourage you to do so. Regardless, this film will be a treasured part of your movie collection and one you’ll be sure to watch several times before you’ll feel satisfied.

With this DVD, Stand Alone Complex returns completely to the story arc at its core - the Laughing Man. With Togusa out of commission, the rest of section 9 focuses on finding the real culprits behind the attack on the Sunflower Society - The Ministry of Health. All three of the episodes here chip away at the truth but we will find little satisfaction in knowing the names. No sooner is a witness discovered, but he is killed, and the trail of corruption leads to the highest levels of government.

This is the classic paranoid plot. More than one player makes the mistake of believing that there is some honor among thieves and faces elimination. The Ministry of Health is ruthless and heavily armed (as Major Kusanagi discovers), assassins lurk everywhere, and even Aramaki falls afoul of a plot. Gradually the entire ugly story of the intentional suppression of a treatment for cyberbrain sclerosis for a technology that is ineffective but makes a fortune for the politicians behind the scenes.

This is a dark story. Without the actions of the Laughing Man no one would know that hundreds are due to die in agony to line the pockets of a political movement that will stop at nothing to increase its power, With no evidence Section 9 seems condemned to making desperate attempts to find a witness who will stay alive long enough to testify. Unlike the earlier Laughing Man episodes, the story has remained coherent from the moment that Togusa finds the paper report. Despite an intricate plot, the level of action stays high and there are a few real surprises for the viewer - it’s not just the enemy who can be sneaky. With three more episodes to go, there’s a lot of room for even more plot twists.

I’ll admit to you that I love to watch Adult Swim, and I’ll also admit that I like certain types of anime. No, I’m not one of those nerdy card-trading Poke’mon lovers, I’m a young adult who likes to use my imagination in my down time. I like anime that’s made for adults like: Big O!, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Outlaw Star, Tenchi and Ghost in the shell.

I was watching either watching Family Guy or Aqua Teen Hunger Force when I saw previews for this show start to air on Adult Swim, I thought thought it looked cool, it featured what looked to me like a cool futuristic take on robots and the humans that are seamlessly integrated with cybornetics to make them almost immortal, But I didn’t know the half of it.

What I got was a cyber-punk version of the old black-and-white film noir mysteries. The series receives its subtitle from a theoretical mental complex attributed to the adaptation of cybernetics into the mass public. In the story, ’stand alone complex’ is said to describe copies with no original and is portrayed by copycat crimes with no original criminal, or in other words, an imaginary criminal. It also refers to the structure of each episode: Each episode can be viewed independently of each other, and there is little catch-up (if at all) given in each episode to keep the viewer up to date.

Taking place in a fictional city of Japan called “Niihama-shi” (New Port City) in the year 2030, Stand Alone Complex tells the story of a special operations task-force called Public Security Section 9, or simply “Section 9″. The series follows the exploits of Section 9’s agents who range from ex-military to ex-police as they address each case and how it affects them on a personal level, eventually leading to the mysterious figure dubbed by the media as “The Laughing Man”.

Public Security Section 9 is an elite domestic anti-crime unit tasked with the charge of preemptive prevention of technology-related acts of terrorism and crime. Their duties include response to serious cyber crimes (i.e. Cyberbrain hacking, cyber-terrorism), investigation of unlawful acts of those in public office and of high profile murder cases. From time-to-time they also serve as protection to foreign VIPs.

If you have seen the movie then you know that the TV series differs from the cinema adaptation in its focus upon issues created by the advance of technology. Instead of the intensely focused and personal examination of technology, presented is a look at society and technology as a larger whole. The series of 26 half-hour TV episodes has a larger budget of time to explore the concepts and ideas found in the original manga. In comparison to the film version, the series is considered by many to be easier to understand. Also, in comparison, the series can be found to be closer to the manga; due to the presence of some humor, the usage of the Tachikomas (Fuchikomas in the manga, and referred to simply as “tanks” in the one scene a derivant version makes an appearance in), the design of the characters, and also, the usage of the characters Paz, Bouma and Saito. Stand Alone Complex exhibits the accumulated experience and expertise of Production I.G. in their application of computer generated imagery. This is evident in their digital color grading, environmental effects, and cell-shaded computer models. Their work has been highly praised for its subtle contribution to a scene, which adds greatly to the atmosphere.

I think a lot of people will try to compare this to Cowboy Bebop as with so many other anime and mangas, but that’s foolish. Stand Alone Complex is no better or worse than Cowboy Bebop, it’s just a different story, different style, different sets of charactors and there places.

if you like anime or manga you’ll definitely like this show. It’s complex, has views on modern terrorism and how to deal with it, and not to mention the technology! Even if you don’t watch anime just give a chance and take it for what it is.

Originally, I wasn’t going to write an online review about this film. Mainly because it came out, over a decade ago. However, I feel the need to defend it, from most of these other reviews.Therefore, I will justify two essential points. 1) Alot of people disfavor this film for the dialog. The film is based on people who are frustrated with the directions of their lives and the deterioration of their envioronment ( aka:hood ) . The profanity might be abundant in the script, but it was coming from characters who vented their frustrations, that device.Not everyone in the hood cusses. But John Singleton’s characters, do. Nobody protested Martin Scorcese’s Goodfellas. I’m certain not every Italian cusses. 2) Alot of people say that there’s too many things going on, in the movie. John Singleton said, in the commentary, that he deliberately, filmed that procedure. He was trying to cappture the realism of everyday life and exemplify the fact that things are unexcited happening, irregardless of the problems of our central characters. Personally, I deem John Singleton, did a phenominal job of juggling other delimas, from the side characters, without sacrificing the importance, of the dynamics between Justice and Lucky. Another director would’ve totally blown the task, altogether. As for the dvd, it offers a director’s commentary ( which some reviewers, obviously didn’t scrutinize ) and previews of other Singleton, films. The film’s theme is simple : Like can conquer all. All acting performances are great and the soundtrack is fine ( old-fashioned and unusual school, atleast in ‘93 ) . * The featured cameo appearances, of Mayu Angelo, The Last Poets,and the dedicated acting from Tupac Shakur and Regina King, cement “Poetic Justice”,into a notable and unforgettable film.

All I ever remember hearing about this movie when it came out is how terrible it was overall, or how Janet and Tupac didn’t act very well. Near to gather out, they were deplorable. This movie is very well made, and Janet and Tupac work wonderfully together. The film is very dark at parts, then can turn around and be “abrasive” because of the language and subject material — but don’t be unsuitable, the movie more accurately depicts the people and places where the movie occurs because of this “abrasiveness.”

The poems that Justice (Janet) reads/writes throughout the film were all done by Maya Angelou, who makes a cameo in the movie too (I was sort of frightened to peruse her in it) . Poetic Justice is a very superior film, but be warned there is language, “sexual situations” (exquisite detached though), and violence. If you like Jan. or Tupac, then you’ll most likely really luxuriate in the film, and even if you don’t have a thing for either, you will peaceful be thoroughly entertained. It’s a astounding movie if you can handle the subjects alive to.

This 1942 five hanky tearjerker garnered seven Academy Award nominations and was the number four box office hit of the year. It is a wonderful, sentimental and romantic love story that captures the heart of the viewer. Corny? Sure, but so what. The film is totally absorbing, fueled by wonderful performances by the velvet voiced Ronald Colman and the beautiful Greer Garson.

The story revolves around a shell shocked, World War I vet (Ronald Colman), who is suffering from amnesia and convalescing in a sanitorium. He simply cannot remember who he is. One day, he simply walks out of that sanatorium and runs into a dance hall entertainer (Greer Garson), who takes a shine to him. Realizing that he has been under a great strain, she looks after him and, before you know it, they fall in love and marry. Now Mr. and Mrs. John Smith, they rent a little cottage in a quaint country village, and he begins a career as a writer. They have a baby boy. All is rosy and well with their world for three years. One day, John travels to Liverpool, where he is struck by a car. The end result is that he remembers who he was before the war, but has no recollection of the last three years.

It turns out that he is wealthy industrialist Charles Rainier. He goes home and takes over the reins of his business. He ultimately engages the services of a wonderful secretary, who turns out to be his wife, though he is unaware of having had any relationship with her, and she does not disclose it to him under advice of the sanatorium psychiatrist, wonderfully played by Phillip Dorn. Steadfast, she patiently waits for the day that he will remember all that they had together.

What happens to them is memorable in this story of love lost and found. It is, no doubt, a highly sentimental and manipulative film, as its intention to tug at one’s heart strings and render one immobilized by tears. It definitely succeeds in that department. It is also hugely entertaining. They certainly don’t make ‘em as they used to. All in all, a wonderful film. Fans of Ronald Colman and Greer Garson will love it, as will all those who love classic films.

Greer Garson always stated that of all the fine films she made during her heyday at MGM in the 1940’s “Random Harvest” was her personal favourite. After another viewing of this grand work directed by the terrific Mervyn LeRoy it is very easy to see why. For lovers of well written, beautifully acted love stories “Random Harvest’ is unsurpassed and the memory of its wonderfully moving story will stay with you for a long time.

This tale includes a vivid telling of the story of Charles Rainier (Ronald Colman in one of his best performances)a shell shocked World War 1 veteran suffering from amnesia who is befriended by , marries and then loses his great love Paula (Greer Garson in another superb performance). Although Ronald Colman is central to the action here Greer Garson really steals the film lock , stock and barrel in her depiction of the lovely dance hall performer who falls in love and marries this mysterious man with no past only to see him regain his former life and in the process forget her. Greer’s self sacrifice in the scenes where she becomes the newly well Colmans’ personal assistant just to remain part of his life while never revealing her true identity to him are the stuff that romantic dreams are made of. Realistic? I doubt that strongly, but Colman and Garson are so professional and committed in their playing that we the viewers believe what is happening and are in there barracking for them .

“Random Harvest” never fails to move me and ranks right up there with those other great emotional dramas of the time like “Waterloo Bridge”, “Blossoms in the Dust” and “To Each His Own”. It has the added benefit of a typical sterling MGM supporting cast with Henry Travers, Reginald Owen, Una O’Connor give the film that special “British” feel that MGM was so good at producing during the war years. It’s obvious that cast and crew never once left the Hollywood sound stages but that doesn’t matter as it is a beautifully put together production created with alot of love and care for the material. It ,in my belief deserved the multiple Oscar nominations it earned and in a way was a big comeback for Ronald Colman after a few ordinary years as a Hollywood star.

If you are a fan of Greer Garson or Ronald Colman like I am you wont fail to love the sentimental and beautifully put together film of “Random Harvest” . It is movie making in the old style at its very best and definately the type of film that Hollywood doesn’t make anymore. Definite 4 hankerchief material and one that will never fail to move you with each viewing. Enjoy!

The ABC drama series “Dirty Sex Money” created by Craig Wright (”Brothers and Sisters”, “Lost” and “Six Feet Under”) definitely made its impression when it took out an ad back in 2007 using Paris Hilton’s jail sentence to promote its show. The series which was originally given 22-episodes for its first season and ran into bad luck (as with other shows) due to the WGA writer’s strike. The first season only received 10 episodes and by the time the second season came back on air, it was ten months since the season finale.

Needless to say, the writer’s strike definitely made “Dirty Sexy Money” a TV series casualty and unfortunately, the series was unable to get back on its feet. The remaining final episodes came back on by July 2009 but needless to say, with so many delays and its unpredictable schedule, many people were lost and eventually missed out on episodes. But fans who committed to the series will fortunately get a chance to see “Dirty Sexy Money - The Complete and Final Second Season” released on DVD and give people a chance to catch up on the final season.

The main premise of “Dirty Sexy Money” revolves around a successful lawyer named Nick George (Peter Krause). A family man and dedicated lawyer, he takes the position of becoming the family lawyer of the very rich and well-known family from New York known as the Darlings. His father was originally the lawyer of the Darlings but since his mysterious death, he feels its necessary to take care of the family.

The Darling family is a powerful family in New York led by Patrick “Tripp” Darling III who wants nothing but the best for his children Patrick, Karen, Brian, Jeremy and Juliet. Unfortunately, his children to get themselves involved in some trouble and thus, its up to Nick to help bail them out.

DISC 1:

* EPISODE 11: The Birthday Present - Six months later, Nick becomes an important part of the Darling family. Patrick’s wife has had enough of his lies and does something about it, meanwhile Nick catches his wife Lisa making out with Jeremy Darling. Meanwhile, Karen Darling and Simon Elder’s relationship grows stronger.

* EPISODE 12: The Family Lawyer - Letitia Darling is accused for the murder of Devlin George and Nick must represent her. Meanwhile, Nola’s and Jeremy have a sexual relationship.

* EPISODE 13: The Star Witness - Nick wants to know from his mother about her final conversation with his father and to let her know that she will be the star witness for Devlin George’s murder trial.

“Dirty Sexy Money - The Complete and Final Second Season” is featured in widescreen with an aspect ratio of 1:78:1, enhanced for 16×9 television. For the most part, the picture quality of “Dirty Sexy Money” is good as expect from a drama series on DVD. But one of the positives of the series is that there is quite a bit of outdoor shots and definitely utilizes an elaborate set design to create the luxurious world of the Darlings.

As for the audio, the series is featured in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. The series is primarily a dialogue driven series with front and center channels being the main source of audio distribution. Dialogue is clear and understandable. But for the most part, the audio is satisfactory for this drama series, this is not a series that doesn’t feature any major scenes that involve surround sound usage.

Subtitles are presented in English SDH, French and Spanish.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

“Dirty Sexy Money - The Complete and Final Second Season” includes the following special features:

* Directing the Darlings - (11:31) Director Jamie Babbit talks about directing the series. Behind-the-scenes footage of Babbit working on certain scenes from the series. Also, interviews with the executive producers and more.

* A Total Knockout - (8:41) A day in the life of Natalie Zea (who plays the character of “Karen”) on the set of “Dirty Sexy Money”. A featurette about Natalie and her character and other talent talking about what they like about working with her.

* Dirty Sexy Crafty - (9:15) Meeting with Josh Kuhn, the Mobile Craft Service Specialist who prepares the food for the cast and crew. The talent talk about the food they eat on the show and the top 5 things that people on the show love to eat and also behind-the-scenes look at Josh serving food to the cast.

* Faux Pas - Bloopers from Season 2 - (1:52) A short blooper reel featuring the cast of “Dirty Sexy Money”.

JUDGMENT CALL:

“Dirty Sexy Money” was a series that I really enjoyed when it first aired on television. The first season showed promise but it was such a shame that the WGA Writer’s Strike really put a damper on the series. Not only was the series cut short but its schedule was too erratic.

By the time it came back on television for season 2, it was already ten months later. Too much time had passed since the finale and to make things worse, when the second season did air, again the season was out of whack as the final five episodes took several months to air after it was reported that the series was canceled. Needless to say, the series did not have much of a chance to get back on its feet.

After watching “Dirty Sexy Money - The Complete and Final Second Season”, not only did I enjoy it, it was bittersweet because the series ends with a major bombshell and you know there are no future episodes to continue the storyline.

Overall, I feel that fans of the series can find some closure with this final DVD set and find some satisfaction from the final 13 episodes. As mentioned, the final episode was quite intriguing and again, it’s a shame that the series will not be continued.

As for the characters, I found them all quite intriguing and you eventually become drawn to that character’s storyline. I was also drawn by the drama and the multiple infighting between the characters, and it’s quite interesting because one can find similarities with this drama series to 80’s drama series such as “Dallas” and “Dynasty” which involve corporate greed, families that were born with luxury and of course, those few characters on the outside who seem to despise that lifestyle.

I felt that the trimming of the first season down to 10 episodes possibly took away from much needed character development and for the second season, although I enjoyed the series, I did have some problems with seeing the disintegration of Nick and Lisa’s marriage but also seeing this somewhat unlikely storyline involving Simon Elder and Nola Lyon. It was a bit farfetched and in someways, I just felt that the character of Simon seemed a bit too young to be the rival of Tripp Darling and therefore, for me, it hindered the storyline as these two rich corporate behemoths would go against each other. It just didn’t seem right.

I did enjoy the part of Karen Darling because her character could have been handled as the typical socialite (ie. which fits the character of Juliet Darling) but easily redeems herself as a person that wants to be love and wants to love someone. So, it was quite interesting to see how her character started to evolve through the second season.

As for the DVD release, “Dirty Sexy Money - The Complete and Final Second Season” does feature solid picture quality for a drama series on DVD and for the most part, the series doesn’t have poor lighting issues or heavy noise during low-light conditions that some drama series tend to have. I felt that the set design and even the costume design was well-done for the series and capturing that style and feel of the rich Darling family and their living space. Audio was quite clear and there are a few special features included. Although, I do wish there was some sort of commentary track included, especially for the final episode.

Overall, fans who dedicated their time into watching “Dirty Sexy Money” will want to definitely check out this final second season if you happen to miss the episodes on television. Again, the final season will provide enough closure for the viewer but then instantly give you a feeling right at the end of the final episode of wanting more.

It’s hard to recommend a TV series on DVD especially when the series has been canceled but for the most part, fans who loved the series or those who missed out on how the series ended, will find “Dirty Sexy Money - The Complete and Final Second Season” satisfying but at the same time, a bittersweet feeling that you want even more “Dirty Sexy Money”, but knowing that there will be no more continuing episodes.

I love this show. How could they not have renewed it for additional seasons??

The incredible first season of C.S.I. was only a tease at the ingenuity and innovation to near in season two. With bigger production values and more depth driven storylines; we notice this television series entering it’s prime thanks to superior performances from the ensemble cast and the ever addicting storytelling which allows the viewer to glance in terror as Grissom (William Petersen) and crew ever so dilligently inspect the facts and solve the crimes, but not before a curveball or two are thrown to the viewer. Petersen is at his best while the rest of the cast, which includes Marg Helgenberger, Jorja Fox, and Gary Dourdan amoung others, gets better and better with every next episode. The DVD package itself is nicely place together, but a few more special features would have been nice (especially considering how Fox loads their X-Files DVD’s with extras; arrive on Paramount how about putting some more exertion into your releases? ), but all together this is a solid deal. All in all, if you’ve been missing out on the best prime time network drama to hit since The X-Files, I strongly suggest picking up the first season before checking this out.
